RE: Media Mail restrictions

I just had a customer ask me if I could send some comics he won via 1st class instead of media mail.  He informed me the last time he won comics, the post office opened the package and inspected it. They made him pay the difference because comics were not allowed via media mail.  Is this true.  I prefer media mail because it is cheaper for the buyer. Not only that if it is over a pound the only option is priority mail. Anybody have some insight on this?

RE: Media Mail restrictions

You cannot ship comics by Media Mail, they contain advertising.

RE: Media Mail restrictions

As noted in the other posts, comics, magazines, and other periodicals are not eligible for Media Mail shipping. So you will have to use Priority Mail for packages over 1 pound. Here's a handy reference chart that USPS put together for staff:

Priority flat rate envelope might be a good choice.

RE: Media Mail restrictions

You can fit a lot of comics in a flat rate envelope. Just sandwich them between some cardboard.

RE: Media Mail restrictions

Comics or anything with ads can't be shipped media mail.   That includes old ads that you can't even buy from.   Magazines also are verboten.

RE: Media Mail restrictions

1stClass is much better service than Media anyway, so IMO worth the price. It's faster (so treated better - out there in the system less and handled less) and not much more expensive if we're talking under a pound. If you need to ship a large 10lb box, then yes, MM is the best choice. JMO. Good luck~

Not to ship comic books.

RE: Media Mail restrictions

And if you're shipping a LOT of comic books, I recommend the USPS Priority Region A boxes -- a really low price for  priority shipping.

Most post offices don't stock these; but they can be ordered FREE from the USPS website!

I have been mail carrier for 21 years. Comics are periodicals and have NEVER qualified for Media Mail.
