Let eBay handle the refund and if a check does come, just rip it up.
eBay's guarantee is that you get your money refunded to the same place
you paid from.
Just send the book back and have them refund you through the same way
you paid. If they don't refund after it's been delivered to them, have
eBay step in and force the refund. There's no reason for them to send a
check.
