Has anyone encountered this at the post office? I brought a box to be mailed, put in the proper area to be sent out. The tracking said an individual picked up the item and it was delivered within 30 minutes but that's not possible because the shipping address isn't local. I'm thinking someone stole the box I was mailing out. I wonder how to handle that?

Someone scanned the package wrong.
Once it arrives at next postal hub you will get another scan.
Always get a scan when dropping off with a receipt…much less stressful for you!

This occasionally happens when a USPS employee doesn't change the setting on their scanner when they are providing the initial scan -- it receives a "Delivered" scan instead -- so your shipment was not "stolen."
Just wait a couple days, and your shipment will begin to receive the corrected scans.
It's not a big deal.

I wait in line at the post office and ask the clerk to manually scan my packages. Never had a problem with tracking.

I scan packages at the kiosk in the USPS to avoid this issue.

I know what you are saying, but it was a human that made this mistake, so it can also happen if you hand it to them.

This advice will trade several thousand dollars a year in labor for essentially nothing at all.

Tracking in ebay may show the delivered scan forever, but you can still see future scans on the USPS website.
