Package under review for potential prohibited items

I've just received a message saying that an item I sent to the Global shipping centre is currently under review for potentially prohibited items - the package contains a DSLR camera so all I can think of is it must be the battery? Will they reject it because of the battery and if they do what will happen?

If it's a Lithium battery, they might be nervous, although I thought the shipping limitation on Lithium batteries referred to shipping them in bulk, not individual batteries already installed in a device (with the obvious exception of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which will burst into flames if you look at it funny).

If they refuse to ship it, they'll refund the buyer for you (i.e. you keep your original payment) and resell the item locally through one of their stores. As I understand it, they may even reuse your listing photos to do it...

Re: Package under review for potential prohibited items

It could very likely be the battery. Where are you and where is it going to? Do you have the specifications of the battery? Most small consumer batteries that are installed inside the equipment should be OK but the rules vary depending on the carrier and country.

The opinions expressed are mine, and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.

If you left any naked pictures in the memory they might be considering it pornography.

I bought a very interesting camera on ebay once. It was a fun messaging the seller.

Re: Package under review for potential prohibited items

The battery would be my guess - there are two restrictions on international shipments (at least for the USPS). The battery has to be installed in the equipment (no spares) AND the destination country has to allow it. This also applies to APO/FPO shipping if the destination host country has restrictions.

Re: Package under review for potential prohibited items

Someone at the GSP center probably just liked your camera, seems to happen all the time with bicycles. You'll get a letter saying the item was prohibitive and was destroyed with no proof other than that provided. Of course they could have just as easily removed the battery, but that would make sense.

This is etremely improbable. The production line worker who sees the item is not responsible for deciding it is unshippable. The item would first go to an 'exceptions' worker who is responsible for deciding how to get problem items shipped onwards. Most probem items would be sorted out at this stage, examples would be poor packing and missing routing codes.

This would deal with most packages and anything not shipped onward would be finally decided by yet another person. The line worker who sees all the items pass by is not in any position to decide to keep the item. In addition workers are searched entering and leaving the depot to discourage pilfering stuff from packages.

Nothing of any value would be destroyed. Sellers and buyers do not lose any money in any case.

The company has a strong financial iincetive to ship onwards where possible, but they also have a similar incentive not to break any transportation rules and are sometimes over cautious.

I realize that English is a second language to me, but where are you getting that information. The GSP is very clear about what is or isn't allowed, but as usual with the case with eBay, VERY vague about what happens afterwards.  I can only go by previous chats about individuals ticked off because their ' bicycle ' was deemed to big and simply disappeared with a smart form letter informing them so and of course the full refund to the buyer. Extremely improbable would be to say a postal carrier from Chicago having 100's of undelivered packages in her flat. Something which we found very amusing here, but would actually be extremely improbable here in Thailand.

The item must not be ineligible, illegal, hazardous, subject to export restrictions, prohibited by eBay, or prohibited by the Global Shipping Program. See the eBay User Agreement and the Global Shipping Program policies and FAQs for complete details.

In cases where a restricted item is delivered to the Global Shipping Center eBay will first determine what makes the item ineligible. eBay will then determine who is responsible for providing the refund, and whether or not the seller gets to keep the purchase price of the item.

Re: Package under review for potential prohibited items

I'm not sure what the specs were for the battery as they will have been on the camera box I imagine, just a regular camera battery installed in the camera. There weren't any photos as I wasn't selling a memory card and I don't think it has internal memory, formatted and reset everything anyway. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks, that's really good to know. I was a bit worried I'd end up having to re-list it and refund the buyer etc.

Re: Package under review for potential prohibited items

eBay has more naked pictures than any individual out there.
Thousands of photos of 99.9% naked young ladies wearing a bandaid-size bikini/lingerie. Hundreds of photos of males wearing butt-crack underwear or frontal photos holding their junk.
Distasteful and it sullies the buying experience for actual buyers.

Oh, btw, what did the seller reply?

Funny thing is if you scroll the page all the way down, it says Powered by Lithium 🙂
