I don't know why the shipping prices have sky rocketed on eBay but I can no longer justify purchasing seventy give percent of the items I used to. It's a crying shame because these were all hobbies that I restored used stuff and recycled. But now it costs more for shipping than the stuff is worth to begin with. Oh well I still get the best deals from garage sales anyway.

Shipping carriers raise rates multiple times each year @motherals . Sellers don't like it, either.
I've had to stop selling some product that are no longer cost-effective to ship, and I'm headed in that direction with my current main category, as well.

Inflation has had a pretty significant impact.
The carriers operating costs aren't immune.

Yeah it's sad that it's come to this. It makes no sense and the only logical reasoning for it at this point is just corporate greed stemming from the top

Corporate greed like the price gouging at the grocery store ? Or would people like to actually look at the actual issue.

It costs me $5.80 to send a 14oz package to the next town. $19 to send a pair of shoes to the west coast. Consider the high % of returns and I can easily go sideways or under during bad transactions.

That was funny.

I'd love to not have to pay or charge for shipping too, but I can't get my items across the country without their help and they know that.

My items ship USPS and they have raised their rates 3 times this year, and for some items will soon (4 days) implement some holiday increases. So it goes. I actually understand why they are doing that, only congress can fix it.

Shipping IS expensive. But people need paying, equipment needs purchasing and maintaining and powering. Real estate needs to be rented/purchased. Taxes need to be paid on all of the above.
Some of it we've done to ourselves. As people want deliveries more frequently and more quickly, that messes up the economies of scale. Rather than send fewer, larger vehicles from hub to hub once a week or less, the carriers send what they have at least daily and often several times a day. Because we want it tomorrow. Me included. That raises the cost per item.
There are purchases I won't make any longer because the shipping makes the total cost not worth it. And the seller is not trying to rip anyone off, it just costs that much once eBay fees and packaging materials are factored in. That's just the way it is.
It used to be offset by an out of state seller not collecting sales tax, (even though you were SUPPOSED to forward the appropriate amount of tax to your own state), but those days are pretty much gone.
