New shipping label page

So what's up with the new print shipping label page?

It no longer gives me the option to go back to the previous, better way of paying for & printing a label & now, I have to measure the box or envelope which takes up valuable time.

I just paid $10.23 to pay for & print a label for a pair of women's huaraches but on the buyer's packing slip, they were charged $8.22!!

I called eBay to complain & was told that this didn't make sense & there were other ways to ship like UPS or flat rate boxes. Of course I was given the run around & the agent wouldn't admit that a mistake was made on eBay's part.

I told the agent I was seriously considering ending all my listings & not selling on eBay anymore. Her comment was "to have a good day!"  No way was this going to happen!!!

I was wondering what is up with this also.  I have not sold anything in a few weeks so have been unable to see what this shipping label format actually looks like at this point.  Does it have anything to do with using the short listing format as opposed to the long listing format.    I have seen that people are reporting that the classic view is no longer available.  Why the hell can't eBay just leave it alone.  There was nothing wrong with the printing label section.   I liked having the option to view all priority choices to see if there was a price difference for all items I shipped using Priority Mail.    I tried using the short listing form only a few times and it was a pathetic mess, so switched back to the advanced format.  I guess I won't be able to see what is going on with shipping labels and their format until I sell something.

I looked at the Cobbie Cuddlers white huarache sandals (my assumption based on your post and recently sold items) as well as several of your active listings. I am seeing flat-rate shipping charges. Your shipping charges do not change when I enter different ZIP codes on the shipping and payments tab (specifically NY 11101, GA 30333, MI 48101, IL 60666, KS 67901, OK 73111, CA 90210, HI 96701, WA 98101). Regardless of service level (first class or priority) the rates would differ when the zones change (e.g. 67901 to 67901 is zone 1 to zone 1 whereas 67901 to 11101 is zone 1 to zone 7).

I do know $10.23 is the current Zone 7 commercial rate for a 2lb priority mail package. However, I can not find $8.22 in the 2019 USPS postage charts. However, $8.22 is what the huarache sandals listing shows for priority shipping to all 9 ZIP codes I tried. That postage price point seems to be inline with what commercial rate priority postage may have been in a year prior to 2018. https://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manuals/dmm300/notice123.pdf

Did you double check your shipping policy and item weight for the sandals in question? Perhaps you used an old/outdated shipping policy? If you haven't already, go to the completed listing, click Relist, and review the shipping policy you assigned to the listing in the Shipping Details section. Also double check your Site Preferences from the Account page to ensure you do not have any shipping discounts enabled.

So, the customer was charged the 2018 price of $8.22 while I was charged the 2019 (I assume) price of $10.23, a difference of $2.01? Must have been an eBay glitch, don't you think, although the agent I spoke to did not admit that.

No, not an eBay glitch.

$8.22 is not a 2018 price. It isn't a price for any service to anywhere at any weight in the 2019 rate tables, and you would have to go back to 2010 to be anywhere near that price for Priority Mail for 2 lb to zone 7. That is all a red herring - eBay does not use previous year's rate tables.

Item 163194279804 that you sold shows $8.22 shipping to me here in California or to any zip code I enter (as joejoev already pointed out).

That listing DOES NOT have calculate shipping specified - you had $8.22 flat price shipping specified for it, and has nothing to do with the new shipping label flow or eBay calculators.

I checked another of your solds, a couple of your active listings, and glanced at the rest - none of your listings appear to have calculate shipping specified.

No I just offer a flat rate charge for shipping. Sometimes I make a very small amount & some times I don't.
The reason for doing this is, I believe, if I offer calculate shipping, then I would have to know in which state the item is going to & couldn't print the label until I knew that. Plus, I wouldn't be able to add the shipping charge in the description. Just seems like a big hassle to me.
So please enlighten me pertaining to this subject.

What? I'm completely baffled here.

You complained (here and to eBay) about the buyer being charged $8.22 - the $8.22 flat cost shipping number you made up and put in the listing. And implied that the eBay shipping calculator is broken because you had to pay the actual shipping cost  (it is not)

Someone else is going to have to explain calculated shipping to you as I can't figure out where to even start. @nobody*s_perfect

Well, of course you don't print a shipping label before you know where the buyer lives.

When you set up a listing with calculated shipping, you just enter the package weight and dimensions, choose a service, and eBay does the rest.  The listing will automatically show the correct postage cost from your ZIP Code to the ZIP Code of any member who looks at your listing. It's completely automatic.

When you look at another seller's listing and see a shipping cost, you can't tell whether it's a calculated or flat price but that doesn't matter -- that's what you'll pay as a buyer.  Your buyers apparently all saw $8.22 because you entered that as a flat postage cost.

No I never put the shipping cost in the listing because I never know what it is until the label is printed & I"m charged.

I still don't know why the customer was charged $8.22 but I was charged $10.23. Can you please explain that?

Also, in the new shipping label format, I never know what the discount is as it is nowhere to be seen. With the old way, it was printed so I knew how much discount there was.

Listings are required to show a domestic shipping cost. The seller either enters a flat price for shipping and handling, or sets up calculated shipping that is based on the weight and dimensions of their package.

In the case of the shoes, the listing was set up with a flat price of $8.22 for shipping.  If you didn't enter it, then eBay did, or it carried over from an earlier listing.

Since you are a seasoned seller, I'm flummoxed by this post.   I'm sure you know if you wish to charge your buyers postage, you have to enter an amount or offer calculated shipping when you list.  I looked at your listings and you use a mix of free shipping and flat rate shipping, where you enter a set amount when you list.

When selling items like shoes, I usually use calculated shipping by entering the correct weight/dimensions of my package when I list.  Since we do not know who will buy, this method will calculate the correct postage to their zip codes (if you've entered the correct info when you listed).   Instead, you set a flat cost of $8.22 in your listing, so that is what your buyer (or any buyer anywhere) would be charged.  It might be enough to close zones, but not across the country.   Your buyer must have been in a zone where the cost was $10.23.   If you used calculated, it would have been charged for that zone, but your flat rate made it set at the amount entered initially.  In other words, when you use flat rate when listing, that's all ebay will offer the buyer.  They will not adjust it depending on buyer location.  The buyer must have a shipping cost disclosed before buying, if you wish to charge them, so it's one or the other (flat or calculated).

The online discounts are still shown on the new label, but I've only started using it myself and can't recall where I saw them.
