Far as I know it's been that way for some time
Maximum Size: 22 inches in length, 18 inches in width, 15 inches in thickness.

eBay used to have it incorrectly set at 18 inches. For us, anyway.

I'm not sure when it kicked in, but that time frame sounds about right 2-3 years ago
Always a good Idea to freshen up on what's changed anytime you have been away from something for that period of length

A few years sounds about right. I used to sell posters in 24" tubes and then they became Priority. Cost too much to ship posters after that.

Those are the dimensional limits for online First Class package postage.
If you're willing to pay retail (either at the Post Office or online through USPS Click N Ship), then the size limit is still a length-plus-girth of 108 inches. Costs about a dollar more than the online rate, but still cheaper than Priority. Weight limit is 13 ounces. See section 6.4:

- Minimum Size: For mailability, all pieces ¼ inch thick or less must be a minimum of 5 inches in length, 3½ inches in height, and 0.007 inches in thickness
- Maximum Size: 22 inches in length, 18 inches in width, 15 inches in thickness
- Parcels are subject to a surcharge if they are irregularly shaped, such as rolls, tubes, and triangles
- The content of these parcels may not contain documents or personal correspondence unless it contains invoices, receipts, incidental advertising, and other documents related to merchandise contained in the parcels.
