Item Lost and Offers Questions

Hi I have a problem of an item lost in the mail. I had never tried this, but gave it a shot. It was a small item so I placed it in the mailbox with the flag up, unfortunately it never was tracked into the USPS system for tracking. I won't do it again, lesson learned, but that still leaves the item. Two days after the expected arrival, the customer opened a item request, so I refunded the money. It has been some time since then, I still hoped the item would show up, like be found and mailed. But the customer contacted me again, still wondering about the item possibly showing up, and said want the item more than the money refunded. This is where I need the help. What are my possibilities. I thought of doing something to help the customer from the item lost. I thought of things like offer a similar or other item of mine for a reduced price, but to do that doesn't a customer need to be a watcher, and then can receive the send offer? Or I could drastically lower the price of an item and send them a link. Or is it possible for them to buy another item, I could give a full refund, and still ship the item and add free shipping. Just trying to figure out my options. I understand the frustration of a lost item, but I don't want to do anything that will cause more problems. Anyone here ever have a similar experience? Thanks!

You could ask the buyer if they would like anything else that you're selling at a discount, but you really don't have to do anything at this point, other than apologize profusely, which you've probably already done.

Was it a one of a kind item, or are there others for sale on eBay?

Refunding buyer without hassle on their part is good enough. If the item does show up, then they get a free item for their inconvenience or decide to pay you again at which point, then offer them a 20% off a future purchase, if you like to retain their custom.

It is one of a kind as it is a 1990's robot figurine. It is a one in a kind because of that, but others are selling them too.

 

I found the link below, anyone have advice for using it. The Promotions Manager for discounts. Like using discounts or coupons? Is there a way to send an individual one?
