Is there a way to APPEAL or DISPUTE an after-the-sale additional shipping charge??

Little Tikes Tykes Pink Bookcase Childrens Book/Toy Shelf GUC Vintage HTF Nice

Order number: 20-12207-17119

I got hit with an additional $50 shipping charge today for this because the UPS store apparently indicated AFTER I dropped it off that the measurements on the prepaid label was wrong?

And I'd already paid up to 80 pounds rate for something that I could pick up with one hand.

I would've cancelled the ebay UPS label and paid the store cost for half what I ended up paying.

So my $170 sale netted me $65...not including initial item cost.

WHAT'S UP EBAY!!??

I was a powerseller ten years ago and felt like I knew how things worked....I'm newly back post-cancer treatment and am totally frustrated.  Is it even worth it??

I thought the ebay shipping thing being integrated was a good thing but this has changed my mind.

So, anyone know a way to appeal this or is it pointless?  There was an indication in one place you could submit a dispute-but impossible to find where to do so.  And it probably doesn't even matter and will just make me more frustrated.  Sigh.  Help?

Hi @walkinntruth

If you packed it yourself and measured it and then used those dimensions to generate the eBay shipping label then you might have some recourse with UPS.  You can do a Sell Similar on the sold item just to see what your original dimensions were and then save it for later and then delete it from your draft file.  That may jog your memory on what the dimensions were that you measured on the actual box once you packed it up.

If all you did was drop the item off for the UPS store to pack and gave them the label then you are at risk for them making a box bigger than what you allowed for.

For myself I don't use UPS, just USPS so I don't know how to appeal a charge like that.

Measurements on the prepaid label were entered by you. Did you measure and weight the item before purchasing the label?

There are many surcharges with UPS and FedEx that are not factored in until the carrier physically reviews the package.

In order to help you determine if your charge was legit or in error (and how to appeal), view the label details and expand the section on the bottom right that says see cost breakdown (highlighted below in green). Black out order #, tracking #, and buyer ID and post a screenshot.

Please also provide a physical description of the package (box, bag, tube, handle, etc).

It all begins with accurate measurements & weight with the seller. I pack it myself before listing so I have the shipping dimensions accurately entered. Always round up. Many sellers try to undercut & you do pay for it. Especially if you use pack & ship services.

Don't think it was anything to do with the weight, but it was the size of the box that cost more.

Have a great day.

Size matters.  It can be light weight but shipping also goes by size.  If it's an over size package, watch out, the charges are murder.  Got to take extreme care getting size and weight correct.

I think I figured it out---UPS tacked on their own measurements using the very tippy edge of the folded over box corners--it wasn't the "real" size--but adding a few inches on each end bumped it up significantly.

Lesson learned.

I will do boxes myself online for fed ex or UPS options and only use ebay shipping for USPS.

What a shocker that was.  And depressing.  Hope none of ya'll get to have that joy this holiday season!  Thank you for your inputs--I'm not participating in ebay selling for a while; can't handle the stress right now of not knowing exactly how things work anymore.

Appreciated!
