Im so frustrated dealing with the USPS

on 12/16/24 I sent out a package I then get an email stating demisions were inaccurated and got charged 1.50$ I have to admit that I was a bit off but not by that much

the real problem was I got hit again with a 9.75 charge stating the service on label didnt match the service used   but I had selected ground advantage postage and thats what I used

but they also said my weight was off I had 8 pounds the receipt said 9 pounds 2.4 ozs yet they stated the weight was 14 pounds

now I know my scale is a bit off but not by that much thats quite a difference

I did try to dispute the charge I mean if I didnt pay enough postage Ill pay the difference but only for the pound its under not 6 pounds the USPS said it was

has anyone else gotten this type of notice--I have had a few underpayment through the years but never anything like this

I did get a generic reply when I sent the dispute form but it said to go to this link and fill out yet another form but half the information I dont even know what there talking about

after last years mess with the PO over my lost item with insurance and now this I might stop shipping during the holidays  its not worth the aggravation

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

You didn't use a Priority Mail box, did you? That's about the only thing I can think of that might give a "label didn't match the service used" message. I have no idea why there's so much difference in the shipping weight, however.

If the package was over a cubic foot in size then the billable weight will be more than the actual weight.

You said dimensions were off...what were they and what did you state they were?  Admittedly, you were also off on the weight, was the 9lb 2.4oz weighed at the USPS at drop off?

Also, are you talking about two different shipments?  or is this all for one package ?

  1. Dimension Noncompliance Fee, add $1.50.         (for incorrect inputted dimensions)

For that other charge ($9.75)

Perhaps it "piggybacked" on another package along the way when the APV scanned it.

xfor the PP   the dimensions that i put in were 19x5x1E+1 IN   actually Im not sure what this even means I know I didnt put that in as a dimension

PO said 26x17x5

also interesting last poster who said that since I put in the wrong dimension that I get charged for it

what about all the missing broken packages the PO delivers and the sender has to jump through hoops to get refunded but the PO only pays out what is owed if shippers (like us ebay shippers) we get fined

the package contained 5 sweaters and 2 t shirts

On the item in question, do a "sell similar" and see what the item's box dimensions were listed at, and check the weight too.  The only thing you know for sure is you understated the weight, and possibly the package size.  Being off on both will have costs added,  and a 26 x 17 x 5 can/will cost a whole lot more than a 19 x 5 x 1

I don't understand how your measurements can be off that much.  Did you measure the box you ended up using or go with what the listing had to begin with?

Just commenting on your statements above -- the price difference is 2 lbs. -- they round up if it's over so an over 9 pound package would count as 10 lbs.

As suggested, do a "sell similar" on that item and scroll down to see what the weight, measurements and service show.

Im so frustrated dealing with the USPS

thanks for the replies I totally appreciate it

In looking into the sell similar

this is what comes up

10 pounds

there is nothing filled in for dimensions which seems funny cause I know I filled that in

but under the weight and dimensions it says

these details are an estimate based on listings like yours

0 pounds   10 ounces   10.5  7.0   2.9

this is totally way off not sure how it was there since I sure didnt do it

any other ideas

I did mange to fill out the form to dispute the charges

also in an email it said after 15 business  days to contact your PC postage  vendor

how in the heck is this

it really is frustrating dealing with USPS if you do something wrong there after you right away but if they do something wrong like losing packages and make it impossible to get your money back with insurance its to bad for you

@dznypal55 Don't LOOK INTO another sale. What is the dimensions and weight of the item, what is the zip from and zip to, and what did you pay.

Most everyone here will be able to help much better.

Note: there is an 'upcharge' of $4 for items over 22" long and $15 for items over 1 sq ft (1728 sq inches) or over 31" in length.

I think the OP used ebay's  suggested shipping info other  sellers have used with like items to sell.    That only works if you are shipping one t-shirt or one sweater.  In this case 5 sweaters and 2 t-shirts were shipped, needing its own custom size and weight input in the listing.   Personally, I never use what eBay suggests, you need to get your size and weight correct for your specific listing, I don't think this was done and USPS is making the adjustments.

The surcharge for length over 22 inches up to 30 inches is $4.

For length over 30 inches, it's $18 for Priority and $8.40 for Ground Advantage.

Packages over 2 cubic feet, surcharge is $30 Priority and $18 GA.

If you enter dimensions wrong, that's the $1.50 "Dimension Noncompliance Fee" that the OP encountered.

Packages over 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches), postage is charged as "dimensional weight" which is the volume in cubic inches divided by 166. For instance, a 13-inch cube will ship at the 14-pound rate unless of course the actual package weight is greater (13 x 13 x 13 = 2197, and 2197/166 = 13.2).
