Your issue is one that's been going on for a long time. The USPS employees not scanning packages when they're supposed to. When I hear that the USPS is going broke I have a hard time feeling bad for them. Maybe if they would terminate some employees who refuse to do the job they're paid to do then replace them with employees who want to work, we could get packages moved faster and tracked better.

I agree.

Yep, me too. I mailed a package from Pensylvania to a buyer in Michigan on the 17th of April. Package was scanned leaving the state said "In transit to next facility"....today is the 2nd of May. I am just concerned because I did mail it MM and the delivery is suppose to be 4-5 days. I do understand with what is happening all over the world and here in the United States that the term "snail mail" is a legitimate term. ALL mailing facilities are operating on a shoestring with social distancing inside the warehouses and I understand. My concern is my buyer will give me a negative asking for a refund when eventually they may get the package after filing a refund and getting the package at a later date......... I have gone to USPS to file a missing package for this package..........
As an added comment I mailed a package from Pennsylvania to Sacramento, California...Priority Mail on the 10th of April. It is the 2nd of May and the tracking still says ..."in transit to next facility". The problem I have with this particular package is..... the last scanned city was San Jose, California on the 13th of April. The package was big enough not to walk out the building.....I went three times after calling USPS customer service (waited first time over two hours for customer assistance, the second phone call I waited over three hours for customer service and the last call to customer service was for over an hour) to ask for assistance to check the progression of the package and I get the obligatory form email saying we checked the tracking and it is "in transit to next facility". When I got the three emails the email said....your request about the tracking has been resolved!!!!! How can it be resolved when the package has been "in transit to next facility" (on a truck I am assuming) for OVER fifteen days.. this is a total of over 21 days and it was sent Priority mail!!! Since San Jose, CA is under Sacramento, CA I am SURE a person could WALK the distance from San Jose to Sacramento and the package would have arrived at my buyers house. One message from someone in Customer Service said maybe something was wrong with the address on the box and the package couldn't be delivered.............I said I found that rather hard to understand because I also had an invoice inside the box with the buyers name and mine inside AND the box was packaged with "air pillows" to prevent crushing while the package being transported from the east coast to the west coast. There was DEAD silence from Customer Service. I have also filed a missing package "request" search at the USPS website for this package also

seriously, people read all replies, 1st class and Media mail is slow right now, go to the USPS and put in your tracking no. and request a message be sent to you via e-mail, blah blah.. that's a tracer, it will get the ball rolling again, it's slow right now....get it? If your so concerned send it priority mail, it's moving great right now.

I did. Not working. Had to do a missing mail. There still trying to find it. I have informed delivery and I also put in my email to let me know when and where it is suppose to be on all my packages. That does not get it moving, but hopefully filing a missing package will help. Waiting on there reply. The first time I did it they came back and wanted to know what was in it and what kind of box the color, I had to message the Seller to get that info, I am waiting on a reply form the post office. It's just getting to the 30 day limit for the money back guarantee.

I'd love for you to ride along with me some day. Everyone that complains should try to do the job or at least observe.
As to not feeling bad because USPS is going broke, you should know that this is because CONGRESS mandated that USPS fully fund 75 years of the pension and CONGRESS also mandates the postage rates. The HOR voted to end the prefunding but the Senate (Mitch McConnel in particular) will not bring it to a vote. Mainly because they have "borrowed" what was paid into the plan. McConnel has also blocked the bill that would allow us older carriers and craft employees to buy back our relief time (I worked 13 years as an RCA, aka a substitute carrier). This would allow us to pay in what would have been deducted and went toward retirement. Personally for me that would mean I would be eligible if I paid for all those years to retire when I felt like it (probably in another 2 to 3 years. Instead currently I'm not eligible until 2033. I should note that I'm a 60 year old woman, I have bad knees, carpel tunnel, arthritis in my hands (right much worse than left), I'm fighting glaucoma. And people are ordering 50# bags of dog food, boxes of cat litter, cases of Monster energy drinks and other such heavy items as their normal. I FRANKLY DON'T SEE MYSELF LASTING ANOTHER 13 YEARS.
On a larger scale USPS is still running LLV's and they are wearing out. You can only run a vehicle for so long. Here is a nice laid out graphic of the problem USPS is facing with them. https://greatbusinessschools.org/usps-long-life-vehicle/.
Same with our scanners. I can't tell you how many times mine has frozen up on the route and I have resorted to taking pictures of labels with my phone so I can import the information manually when I get back to the office. Try punching in the 16 digit tracking numbers from 100+ packages sometime. Thank God for wine !!!
And for you with city carriers consider this. We have only 2 "city" routes in my small office. One guy walks 8 miles a day and the other walks 14 miles. They maybe toting 30# or more in their bags while doing so. In the winter cold or summer heat. I know with my knees I couldn't do their job, could you?
