Global Shipping Program questions for someone who uses it

I am located in the US and currently only ship to the US, APO, and FPO addresses. I like the idea of shipping internationally to boost sales, but I have a few questions that are making me hesitant to try eBay's GSP. I just want to make sure of a few things before I jump in. For anyone that uses the program, can you answer these quick questions?

I list all of my items with free shipping. I understand if I were using the GSP to ship internationally, I would ship to an eBay hub and they would take care of shipping from there. So, just so I'm understanding this correctly, that means I would have no additional costs on my end? No additional shipping fees or customs fees? If that's the case, instead of "free shipping" for international buyers, do they see shipping/customs costs? eBay's FAQ makes it sound like nothing would change for me and the way I sell now...just wanted to make sure!

For those that are using it, how has the GSP helped with sales? What is your overall thoughts on the GSP?

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but that's it for now...thank you!

You also got to think about buyers that will file INAD's.

If they claim the item isn't as you described it, you'll be paying for the return shipping from their location.

Have a great day.

There's no additoinal fees on your end. At least not directly.

You could also set your items for no international returns. But at the end of the day, you will likely need to pay additional fees due to issues with delivery and/or SNAD's.

For example, there's been a number of times the items been damaged on delivery and/or repackaged (despite eBay claiming this doesn't happen, we've seen it done with types of eBay tape that we do not have on site).

Returns can be a big hassle, so often times we just end up doing a refund if it's out of the country.

Overall, we like the GSP. You do have to take some losses in situations I described, but it does typically make more than you lose.

But be careful which items you use. For example, in auto parts that we sell, certain vehicles manufactured in other countries require completely different parts. So make sure it's an item that could work regardless of country!

That is a very good point, I regularly sell rare, harder to replace items so getting INAD claims would be a huge concern for me. That alone may keep me away from selling internationally.

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it!

I use it for all my listings.

It's a rip off for the buyer (high fees) but hey, if they are willing to pay, then why not. That's a sale that you normally would not have.

For anyone that uses the program, can you answer these quick questions? I use it for most of my listings and have at least 10 sales from GSP monthly.

If that's the case, instead of "free shipping" for international buyers, do they see shipping/customs costs? I am unsure of the exact wording but, it tells them that the shipping costs are estimated.  eBay's FAQ makes it sound like nothing would change for me and the way I sell now...just wanted to make sure!  Nothing changes for you.  Only thing I sugges is a little extra packing material.  Overseas shipping companies are typically ruff with items.

It has definitely helped with sales.  I have used it since it's conception.  I have had a few items arrived damaged but, ebay has 100% covered them all.  Just send the buyer to ebay CS and then I always make a call myself if I dont see it close before the time limit.  Never had an issue with it though.

I have had 1 SNAD that wasn't due to an item arriving damaged.  The item would have cost more to ship back than the value so, I just refunded and took the loss.  But, I would say 1 SNAD in 3-4 years is not bad and not an issue.

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but that's it for now...thank you!

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but the Paypal fees are higher if the buyer doesn't have a US Paypal account. I believe that it is 4.4%.

If an item is damaged in shipping then the gsp refunds the buyer and they don't have to return the item. You would responsible though if the item wasn't as described and it was deemed to be the sellers fault.

I don't know a lot about what you are selling but are those games compatible with machines sold outside of North America?

I like GSP, I don't love GSP.

But you know what, with GSP being up in the air with forced Mangled Payments, you might want to just have international buyers message you and deal with things case by case until you are set up for international sales.

Once you deal with a person who doesn't know how to handle customs holds and added charges, either purposefully exploits it or just by their own ignorance therefore changing their mind... Once you deal with that nightmare, you appreciate GSP for the handling of certain items. It reduces(not eliminates) the risk for customs scams for the seller a considerable amount in my experience.
