FedEx Ground Economy Claim Form

I have send a package per FedEx Ground Economy (selected by the buyer). The item has arrived damaged and I have refunded the buyer. Opened a claim via eBay Claim Form beginning of June. Talked several times (last with Jamil) with eBay Marketplace. Send several emails, getting canned version from eBay, that the mail has been received and I don't have to send again. I really would like to get the claim closed and be refunded. There is no way to contact FedEx Ground - calls are ending in the bucket.   Any wisdom out there -

Re: FedEx Ground Economy Claim Form

Damage claims are hard to win.

Usually require the buyer to bring it in for inspection.

Even then they blame the packaging most of all the time.

If you have the buyer send the item back then that voids inspection.

Also, I'm not sure if Fedex Smart Post is same as UPS SurePost. However with UPS SurePost, once the item is handed over to the USPS all insurance coverage is lost unless you purchased third party insurance.

Hi @u-mecking . Tagging you with hopes it sends you an alert to find your way back to this discussion. You created 6 different posts about this. Unless you purchased third party insurance, and it sounds like you didn't, then you have no recourse to file a claim.

FedEx Ground Economy labels on eBay are not insured. This is a risk you take with FedEx Ground Economy (SmartPost) and with UPS Ground Saver (SurePost). It's one of the reasons these services are less expensive.

If you do not want to ship with Ground Economy, don't offer it on your listings.

Was this the slide projector? I've heard those are prone to shipping damage so you need extra care with the packing materials and double-boxing, especially if you're sending with a slower shipping service where the item is going to go through multiple carriers and longer / more handling en route.

Re: FedEx Ground Economy Claim Form

wrong - there has been a $100 insurance with FedEx Ground Economy -(back in June) -  it seems this has been changed currently. My claim form indicates that eBay Marketplace is working with FedEx Ground Economy to credit the claim to my account.  The items has been packed very carefully (I'm known for great packing). Anyway - thanks for your wisdom - be well

Re: FedEx Ground Economy Claim Form

here -

Insurance isn't available through FedEx for Ground Economy. However, if you used FedEx Ground Economy and your package is damaged or lost from the time it’s first scanned by FedEx until it's delivered to a USPS facility, FedEx Ground Economy is responsible for a maximum replacement value of up to $100 plus transportation costs.

Here's how to file a claim for Ground Economy shipments:

  1. Go to Shipping labels in My eBay or Seller Hub.
  2. Find the shipping label for the item and select Submit Ground Economy claim.
  3. Fill out the claim form and select Submit.

With FedEx Ground Economy claims keep in mind:

  • You'll need to wait 20 business days after the most recent tracking status update before a claim for a lost package can be reviewed. It generally takes 2-3 weeks for claims to be processed
  • All FedEx Ground Economy claims are processed and managed through the eBay Marketplace. Because FedEx Ground Economy is an economic service, status updates for your claim will not be available if you call eBay or FedEx
  • All claims need to be filed within 90 days of the package's physical entry into the FedEx system
  • If a claim is approved, the selling price of the item on eBay Marketplace (up to $100) will automatically be credited to your Payments account

Right, but the key part there is the damage has to occur while the package is with FedEx before it's passed off to USPS. If USPS did not report receiving it damaged, then the package is generally considered damaged while in USPS possession and the USPS leg of the journey is not insured.

Since you filed the claim all you can do is wait for the results. FedEx will investigate and you have to wait for that process to play out.

Edit to add this quote from the help page:

  • Because FedEx Ground Economy is an economic service, status updates for your claim will not be available if you call eBay or FedEx
  • If a claim is approved, the selling price of the item on eBay Marketplace (up to $100) will automatically be credited to your Payments account

Check your Payments page directly - if the claim is approved you'll see the refund there. Change the "all types" filter - I think it has to be filtered to "adjustment" @u-mecking .
