Don't get screwed when your U.S shipped package shipping label return is for overseas.

Ebay customer service Reps are giving out incorrect information when you have a purchase you received with a U.S address that you need to return because item was not described accurately, defective etc..and you find out the seller return label is for overseas.
When you call customer service and they give you a complete run around with misinformation ask for the escalation team and state to them this quote ....
"The seller is responsible for the return shipping costs when the item was not described accurately, and this includes the item location. If the item was listed in the US, a US return address would be required."If the seller will not provide the U.S address they are breaking Ebay regulations and even if your overseas return label has been initiated the (Escalation team Ebay) will step in and refund your return immediately.

The seller didn't do anything that is against eBay policy, so I will assume you received a courtesy refund.   That happens if you complain enough sometimes.

I might be wrong, but if seller is paying for return shipping, I think they can ship it anywhere they want.

That was mentioned to the op in at least two other threads but they must have kept pursuing it and were able to get some sort of refund.

I am going by the quote from the Ebay community team leaders and also by The escalator team member that refunded said it was a volition of the Ebay regulations.They need something in writing if it does not excist.

It doesn't exist because it isn't a violation. 

You probably got a courtesy refund from eBay.  Which means the seller didn't refund the money, eBay did.  They refunded you as a courtesy.

That's for bookkeeping:

Buyer  --> pays    --> Seller

Seller --> refunds --> Buyer

eBay   --> gifts   --> Seller

This way, the original transaction is zeroed out, then eBay gets a write-off.

The seller refunded US $ to your original payment method
