I ordered a package and the estimated day was September 11. That day goes by and nothing. I open an item not received case and today was the day eBay could step in. Finally I get an update that it is at my post office today. I get a notification that it has been delivered but at a time that is not normal for my mailman. I come home and there is no package to be found. I also get an email that my case has been closed because the tracking number says delivered. I call my post office, and they say they will send somebody out to the location it was delivered to. I get a call back from the post office and they say that they found the item with the tracking number I had been provided, however, it did not have the right address, name, or even match the product description I gave them (my package was large but the delivered item was an envelope). The post office says they took a picture of the item which has the tracking number I was provided on it. I guess my question is will I be able to use this picture to make an appeal to eBay and turn the case in my favor so I can get a refund?

@exum13michael Yes, file an appeal and upload the photograph from USPS. eBay May also want something is writing from USPS. This sounds like the “same zip code” scam where the seller sends a small object to a random business in your zip code in order to win a INR case.

If eBay refuses to reopen this case and refund your money, file a dispute with PayPal. Include your original message here and the photo from your PO showing the different address. If PayPal closes the case, another option would be, if you used a credit card through PayPal. is to file a dispute for item not received with your credit card. If PayPal gets wind that your credit card company is now involved, they will refund the money, rather than fight the credit card.

Is it common mistake or scam? I exactly have a same issue. After my case is closed, the USPS investigated that the seller put the wrong address (but same zip code). I have contacted ebay and they requested me to submit the police or law enforcement report. It's nonsense......
If you file what they've asked you you can appeal the decision and they will likely refund you. I'm sure that's why they are asking you to do it as part of an appeal process
