Shipping cost for Each additional item shoud be free

Hello,

I bought two items from the seller bm-electronique.

Each additional item should be free, but i was charged twice.

Why do this happen?

Sellers are never obligated to offer combined/discounted shipping.

You were wrong to just ASSUME this seller would. The time to get clarification on shipping, or anything else about the item, or seller's policies is BEFORE making your purchase.

You must now pay the seller for the items or get non payer strikes on your account.

I'm going to guess that you saw "each additional ifem free" in the shipping handling section of the listing.   If this was a multi quantity listing and you saw that wording inside the shipping box the each additional item being free referred to each additional bought within that one listing.   Combined costs for multiple listings appeals above the the shippping and handling box and the writing used to be green not sure if it still is.

Just because two items are coming from the same seller does not mean he pays the same shipping cost.  The two items together weigh more and therefore cost more to ship together.  It may be that one item would have shipped First Class Mail for $4.  But the two items together weight enough that seller has to send both items Priority Mail and that costs $7.50.    So the seller can not afford to pay the additional $3.50 out of pocket.  That's where combined shipping comes in and if seller offers combined shipping in the listing's description, then put both items in your cart and click on "Request a Total" so seller can calculate shipping and send you a revised invoice.

.

Why do this happen?

Good question. And there may be several legit reasons.

1. Did the seller say "combined shipping" in the listing? If not they may not offer combined shipping, you can't assume that.

2. At checkout, or payment, you can request a new invoice, and add a note requesting combined shipping.

3. A seller may refund shipping for combined shipping, you can message the seller and ask for a refund for combined shipping. The seller does not need to honor that.

4. If shipping is free, there is no combined shipping.

5. The cost of shipping also includes the cost of handling. To sell one item you pick the widget up, you might wrap it in tissue or bubble wrap then put it in a box. If you package two items you pick the first widget up, you might wrap it tissue or bubble wrap and put it in a box, then you pick the second item up and do the same. If you are paying a kid to do this it costs twice as much in labour/time to package two items. Shipping includes postage plus handling and packing material (which may be larger for combined shipping).

6. The seller may actually pre-package items for shipment, so the item is sitting on a shelf, in an envelope and just needing a label. We see that more in electronics parts, like memory cards, where you will receive two separate packages for a double order.

7. You may have run across a shipping scam, some non-U.S. sellers have high shipping costs with no discounts. This may be a scam, and a reason I rarely buy from China. I won't go into it, but in this case you have one of three choices.

  1. Write to ask for a discount, probably will be denied.
  2. Refuse to pay and incur two strikes against your account, which will disappears after 6-12 months, (strikes can limit your ability to purchase in the future).
  3. Bite the bullet, pay for it, and vow to never buy from China again. (to the left of the search results, you can check a button for US only, and it will exclude most foreign offers.)

And last, if you have questions about combined shipping you can write the seller beforehand to find out what it will be, if any. If you have won items at auction/BIN and assumed there would be combined shipping and there is not, you can still write the seller to ask about combined shipping. If the seller does not provide it, you can request that the seller cancels the auctions/listings, and if the seller will not cancel, you can follow 7-2 or 7-3 above.

Your blanket statement takes nothing into account.

So you want the second item shipped for free whether it weighs two ounces or twenty pounds.

so would you be willing to consider that not every single item can be added for free?

All of the listings that I looked at for that seller did have free shipping for the second item but the seller may not have it set up to work properly if the 2 items were not within the same listing or if they were 2 different variations within one listing. You should go to your purchase history and click on contact seller.  Ask them if they would be willing to refund one of the shipping costs.

When you do make a purchase of more than one item, put your item into the cart and if the shipping is not correct, click on request total on the top right of the cart  so that the seller can send you a correct invoice.

It looks to me as if it probably should have been free. I find it odd that many of the other posters just assumed that it shouldn't be rather than ask as you did.  The poster should have given more info in their post but there might be a language barrier in this case.

Not if the op bought from different listings.  The seller only has it set up that each additional item is free within that listing.   Those listings aren't set up for combined shipping between multiple listings.

Yes, I realize that. I mentioned in my first post that it wasn't set up to have the second item free if the items were in different lists.  And that is also why I said it is 'probably' supposed to be free even if the items were in different listings.  Every item that I checked had free shipping for the second item purchased so I can see why the op would have thought that the second one was free even if the item was in a different listing.

But for all we know the items were in the same listings but different variations..it isn't set up to give free shipping for the second one if the variations are different either because of the way the system is set up. But  considering the shipping tab does say the second item is shipped free, I would think that it would be.

I just think that some of the posters judged the op harshly when I think that he op had a fairly good reason to think that the second item would be shipped free. Yes, if the poster had given more info, it might have been different, but some assumed that the op was being unreasonable and that might not have been the case.

also, in a listing, seller might say, please wait for updated invoice before paying as I do not refund if you pay before updated invoice.

doing that with buy it now is a little more complicated.   The buyer needs to add to cart and click request total and then commit to buy.  They can't just buy it now and wait for the total.
