Scratching my head here, maybe you all can help...
I purchased an item from China in February, with the shipping date saying it would arrive from March 10th-April 6th. No problem, I can wait that's cool by me.
February 18th the tracking number was provided and then February 20th another entry was made:
"Your item was picked up by a shipping partner at 2:14 am on February 20, 2020 in FREMONT, CA 94538. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date."
I have not seen it move since then, I've asked the seller about this and been told, rightfully so that coronavirus has really slowed things down but to wait.
The problem is I've waited and waited and the seller said they'd open a complaint with their postal service and if they don't hear anything about it, they'd send another replacement product.
I agree to this but I start doubting the truthfulness in this conversation, a friend of mine who is a lifelong ebayer said I need to open a claim with ebay for item not received. I file the claim and let the seller know and they're instantly upset.
Ultimately, with all the respect and calm I can muster I just tell the seller that they can figure this out and to let me know what the deal is.
Do I just wait this out? Am I being taken for a ride? I'm just trying to protect my butt here, I just want what I paid for.

Wait one day past the last delivery date given and file a item not received case. Do that in the resolution center. Link at bottom of page.

If you received a message saying it was in California I don't understand how it could not be here by now. I would advise you to open a case. You have been waiting long enough. If the seller gets mad maybe they will do something about it, like figure out where the hold up is.

Thanks guys,
I opened a case with ebay a few days ago and unfortunately closed it after pressure from the seller via personal message. I'll own up to that foolish mistake being my responsibility.
I don't think there's anything I can do at this point.

File an INR with Pay Pal.

You say that the ETA said that it would arrive from March 10th-April 6th.
You have up to 30 days after that LAST date of the ETA (April 6) so you have until May 5 to open your item not received case with eBay (29 days to be safe).
When you open the case, the seller will have 3 days to come up with a satisfactory solution, after those 3 days pass and the item is STILL not in your hands, escalate the case and eBay will make a final decision (in your favor I'm sure) and you will be refunded.
DO NOT let the case expire or you will not be refunded...do not listen to any "promises" being made by the seller, at this point, it is - item in my hands by the 3rd day of this case or escalate the case on the fourth day.
PayPal should be a fall back in case anything goes wrong with eBay's money back guarantee. Your CC company will be the next fall back after PayPal.
Good luck.

Yes, there is something you can do. File the item not received case through Paypal, and quit communicating with the seller. Don't let them talk you out of anything any more. Follow through with your complaint to get your money refunded.

Thank you all so much. I appreciate it immensely. I filed through PayPal just a few minutes ago.
This may seem stupid of me however one of the things the seller was trying to tell me was that the item I purchased was "large capacity" and that it would take longer to ship which is why the 3rd party shipping company hadn't moved as fast - is there any truth to this, whatsoever??

What did you buy?

Don't worry about what they say. It has been too long. This is already almost a month past the due date. Get your refund, then if the item does turn out to be delivered in another month or 2, then you can pay the person for the item then. But I don't believe the item is every going to arrive for you.

I'm not saying the seller is a liar but the seller is a liar. I hope that you do not close your case for any reason other than a full refund of the purchase. It sounds like this seller is trying to pull a fast one on you.

After filing my INR claim through PayPal and getting a response to my question of whether or not the seller had contacted the postal service I got this:
"I have arranged a new shield for you. Would use more reliable shipping method to guarantee the delivery this time. The mail company feedback us the first package has been interceped for unproper "Declare name" shield. Thank you for your best understanding."
I have absolutely no idea just what is going on.
