I just got a notification that a buyer wants to do a return, and it was automatically approved.
I only shipped yesterday, so item hasn’t been delivered yet.
Nothing was mentioned about paying for a return label, and no details whatsoever are given for a reason for return…
I don’t offer free returns—I have it set where the buyer pays return shipping. Can I deduce that the buyer is paying for the return shipping (and not getting original shipping refunded)?
I’m assuming they’re NOT claiming something was wrong with item, since they haven’t gotten it yet…

That's not accurate @cleaning.the.attic , you just didn't click the link on the message that takes you to the return details.
Look on this page - you'll see the reason for the return over to the right before you even open to see details.
https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/return
Come back with more info and also let us know the item number.
This item 133275374817 says seller pays for return shipping. If that's not what you wanted you'll need to revise the listing before someone else purchases your last one.
The other 4 items I clicked on said buyer pays for return shipping. Seems you have some variations in your return settings.

Well, if it was the $99 Trackmaster... it may be worth $17.50 (?) to do a package intercept. Hmmm... 🤔
ETA: At least you'd get it back in the same condition in which it was sent.

I am curious what the return reason is.
It will be in your return details.
If it's a remorse return then that's pretty much legitimate. You can open a return before it's received.
But if they did an INAD, then that's quite abusive in my mind.

I did click on the link that says “See return details”, in both messages from eBay—one that said the return was auto-approved, and one that said my funds are on hold. It then shows ‘return summary’ and ‘history’, neither of which shows any info about a reason. (Which is ridiculous)
But thank you, the link you gave above takes me to the page with the info..
—> Buyer’s reason is “Didn’t like item”.
Is that buyer’s remorse, then? That’s not a INAD or SNAD or whatever?… They haven’t even gotten the item to know if they like it or not.
Hopefully they get the item and don’t even open it, stick a return label on and ship it back.

Hey @cleaning.the.attic - if you did click on the link to see return details you would have to look in that column on the right side of the page for the return reason.
That said, you found the reason with the link I gave you and yes, "didn't like item" is remorse. Buyer probably just changed their mind.
Whether or not buyer pays for return shipping depends on the listing's return policy. As I pointed out above, you have different policies (seller pays vs buyer pays) on different listings.
No, you do not have to refund what the buyer initially paid for shipping on a remorse return, as long as there was separate ship cost and not "free" shipping.

I tried several paths to see ‘return details’, and none of those showed the reason. (Are they trying to hide that now?…it’s been a while since I had a return, knock on wood…)
I used the link above and finally found it. Reason was “Didn’t like item”…
I guess that’s buyer’s remorse. More like ‘didn’t like that they bought item’ or something.
I’m hoping so, and they just return it unopened, and they’re just an upstanding citizen 😂 who changed their mind. Thanks.

Yep, you do! Which means buyer will pay for return shipping and because you charged separate ship cost you won't have to refund original shipping - just the item price.
