2 packages and only one shipping label

Hi Folks. I have a listing that will require me to separate the items into two boxes, each weighing over 30 plus pounds. After the sale, I will be purchasing a USPS Media Mail label from Ebay. There will be two boxes and only one label. I assume that I can't use the same label on both boxes, or maybe not. Any advice will be helpful. Take care.

After you purchase the first label, you will have the option to purchase another one.  For any eBay transaction, a seller can purchase up to 5 labels.  Either on the screen that shows up right after you purchase the first label, or back in your sales record in the item entry.  Just adjust the label form so you have accurate package weight for each box.

If I was shipping over 60 pounds of books, I might divide it into 3 boxes. The heavier the box, the more likely that it will be dropped or otherwise damaged.

Re: 2 packages and only one shipping label

Question, is the OP simply wanting to split up one order into two separate packages and 30 lbs media mail postage each? Or are they wanting to use one label of 60 lbs media mail postage to use on two boxes of 30 lbs each?

When I first read it I understood it to be the latter.

A label can ONLY be used in 1 box. You will have to buy a separate postage label for each box. Make sure that your item qualifies for media mail. If the post office opens it and discovers something that is NOT media mail inside the box, the entire box is disqualified from media mail.

If you have magazines with advertising, those can NOT travel by media mail. You need to pull those out and send them first class, parcel or priority mail.

I've often thought about this. What if you attach, wrap up, or tape both boxes together so it is essentially one combined rigid package? As long as the dimensions are correct, one label should work for that right?

Re: 2 packages and only one shipping label

Yes, USPS specifically allows two boxes to be treated as one item if they are securely attached together. But in this case the reason for having more than one box is so that each box is a manageable weight.   It would be technically OK to ship one box or joined boxes weighing 60 or even 70 pounds, but it would be so unwieldy that the risk of damage would be significant.

I hate to be 'that' one... but I don't see any listings (live or sold) that would go Media Mail. Will it be a new listing?
