This large group of volunteers with their expertise and dedication should be rewarded. It may not even be legal. I'm just a visitor putting it out there.. Pros-Cons?

For what?
Whose ads?
Why clutter the help boards with commercial ads?
Just a small spot ad, maybe the Pillow Guy? Seriously though something not to intrusive. Just a thought to reward the most productive helpers.
@fairdeal*lb If anything was done I think a monetary compensation would be better then ads ... one of the policies here is no Solicitations ... adding ads would make this more of a Selling forum which to me would violate some of the basic principals of helping and sharing ...
Mr. L
I guess it was worth a try.
Have a Safe and Happy 4th..
@fairdeal*lb Everything like this is worth discussing ... many good viewpoints

I guess I would call that a positive start.

Those days are LONG gone. I used to even get money for my eBay anniversary years ago.

@fairdeal*lbPop up ads for products on the selling board? Why would they go on the selling board instead of the buying board? People on here generally want to sell. People on the buying board are generally the buyers.

Yeah why not both? I'm sure some small ads wouldn't be terribly intrusive.

Pop-Up ads?
Many of the posters on the Selling board are former Sellers, not current ones. An "ad" would not make sense, regardless.
You are correct there is a great deal of collective intellectual capital that is generous enough to share same on the boards. Perhaps tie it to years of service to the boards in some way - those who are dedicated enough to not sell here any longer and still work to contribute to the greater good of the community as a whole, are truly valuable beyond words. The e-Bay bucks to spend on the site were a nice gesture before.

I still have the ebay tee shirt they sent me in 1998 for qualifying for the "new power seller program", never used it
I'm not expecting any prizes for my 24th anniversary next month. Yes, things have changed a bit

If you're referring to the "helpfuls" other members can give a post, that's really nothing more than a popularity contest. Members who are cyber-friends get together and give their pals "helpfuls" as though they were "likes" on Facebook or other social media sites. They mean absolutely nothing. Same with solutions. Same with the board monikers.

I wonder if ad revenue would make it more appealing to eBay. Win-win a good look for eBay and really they wouldn't even have any real skin in the game.

Maybe some other grading system based on real merit?

Long ago? I think I'm a regular. I never got a $10 credit or Anniversary money. I get a Christmas gift SOMETIMES from the Community Team, which I do appreciate.
But I don't do it for the helpful votes or badges.
The helpfuls aren't accurate anyway. On one board I might get three helpful votes added to my count, and an hour later five votes have been removed and my count is lower than I started out with. This is an ongoing thing. A roller coaster ride going up and then going down, every day!
I noticed the member behind me has the same thing going on with his votes. Just say he has 81 votes this morning. He did. He shouldn't have 71 votes later on in the day. How is that happening?

Maybe I am not understanding you correctly, but wouldn't Boards then become flooded with useless replies? I mean, wouldn't there be a few of us who'd reply to every single post, whether or not we knew what we were talking about?

It's a rolling total, which can move very abruptly if you're looking at "Last day (24 hours)" rather than one of the longer options (7 days, 30 days etc.). Or the likes might have disappeared along with a post that was removed due to a policy violation.
