Hey devon@ebay - can you connect with Khoros to find out what happened to tagging?

Tags are not displaying on posts.

When I view tag links, it's redirecting to the home page. Example:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/tag/hub%20redesign%202024/tg-p

I double-checked my profile settings and tagging is turned on.

Tags are incredibly helpful for keeping track of specific topics. I hope this is not an intentional change.

Please also read through this thread, Devon:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Tag/m-p/34647825#M2450386

If this was an intentional change, I strongly urge you to reconsider. There were, what, a handful of posters regularly abusing the feature? Why not just deal with those posters privately with warnings, temporary suspensions, or whatever it is you do when posters violate the rules - and keep the tagging feature available for those of us that use it for the benefit of community? The rest of us should not be punished because of bad actors numbering single digits.

Hey @wastingtime101! We are currently running a test of having the tags turned off due to the alarming number of spam tags that our Khoros Mods have seen over this past month. We plan to revisit the tag situation next week and this gives us time to clean up the spam tags and try to figure out a game plan to get a better handle on them. We do understand, when used correctly, the value that tags can bring to threads and we want our members to be able use them.

Thanks devon@ebay - I appreciate the update. I hope this is a feature we can keep because it's incredibly beneficial to community when used correctly.

If it's true spam, perhaps you can restrict newbies from tagging just like you did with uploading photos?

If it's established posters being disrespectful then I assume you can see that on your end and work with those posters to follow community rules.

Either way - if you could come back with an update after the cleansing period, that would be appreciated.

devon@ebay,

I have seen a few cases where a sketchy/scam website was posted in a tag, but I only recall a few (and I reported them). I would not be surprised if there were more that the mods took care of before I saw them. I appreciate that.

I have the impression that the scammers are combining two scams, and getting their job/task/order-grab victims to post scam links. That's just a thought, though.

Same @lacemaker3  - I've seen only a few instances where tags were used to post scammy websites and I reported them - but like you, only a few.

More commonly I see new posters put scammy links in their post signature, or try to hide malicious links in the punctuation of a sentence like the comma in this sentence. Don't worry, the comma links to eBay's home page, but I am demonstrating how easy it is to miss the hyperlink if you don't have an eye out for it.

@wastingtime101  and devon@ebay,

I have been watching out for malicious links in signatures, because that would be a good way to add a bunch of scam links at the same time. I am not sure if I have seen any or not. Possibly, I may have lumped them in with links in tags.

Really missing tags devon@ebay - where do we stand with this useful feature being restored?

Hey @wastingtime101! The team has plans on discussing tags here soon and I will let you know what we decide to do!

Is this a lost cause devon@ebay ? So many times the past few weeks I was looking for posts and couldn't easily find them without the tag shortcut.

Hi devon@ebay . The "labels" system, which can only be used by the original poster (unlike tags) is woefully inadequate.

Every time I start a post the system gives an error telling me the most relevant labels cannot be used.

Hey @wastingtime101! To answer your question about tags, we are keeping them turned off for now due to not having the resources to remove the high volume of tags that are not allowed on Community,

For the labels, we do not have it to where users can create their own labels to attach to post. They must use the predefined labels that are created which would be seen in "Choose a Label".

Maybe you can get a Summer Intern on it devon@ebay . 😁

Tags used to have certain blocks in place. I remember there were restricted words. If tags are re-activated in the future, seems like you could apply more defined restrictions/censors. 🤷

As for labels, some very common terms are not included. As the above example shows, there is no label for FedEx (but there is for USPS).

Thanks for the update.
