Spam, Spam, Spam - Why are the board spam filters still out of whack?

The post that was being bumped occasionally "http Do not reply report to mods" seems do have gone poof.

So ... here we are, 2+ weeks later ... with the same (type of) spam being posted every day.

alan@ebay

Is there a timeframe available for the "fix" of the broken spam filters?

It's getting a bit frustrating reporting spam to the mods manually 😞

Even requiring a FB of 1 would stop them

It's not even like this is GOOD spam. The fractured English is hysterical and makes zero sense.

Ebay must have cleaned it up pretty quickly because I signed on at 9 AM EDT, and all spam had already been removed.

I reported 3 at 6:25 AM Central, right after I posted  ... and they were removed soon after ... but we really shouldn't have to keep reporting these many 😞

Ebay has a lot of vulnerabilities both in their listings and on this board.  Seems very easy to just make up an account and get registered.

One way to stop it should be that 0 accounts, unless they are in the middle of their first transaction - in which case you would have to add a listing no - should not be allowed to post here.

It's because eBay is THE global leader in IT. Don't believe it? Just ask eBay.

Oh, that and they lead in global IT just as well as they do everything else.

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

Hi @penguins_dont_fly, I'm touching base with our moderators on this issue and will give an update as soon as I can. Though I'm glad to hear these posts have been cleared up at this time, I certainly see the frustration of having to report them manually.

Trinton, why are the boards so slow.

I can make a pot of coffee and get back before it goes to the next page.

Someone asked yesterday, but the mods moved the thread.  So I did not catch the answer,as to why it is happening and when it will be fixed.

Yes, that thread was removed. I'm not sure why, since it was OK for a couple of weeks (July 28 until at least Aug 7).

@Anonymous, can you let us know (in general terms) why this was removed? So we can avoid doing it again, whatever it was.

@lacemaker3

I know what happened to that thread...

I was the OP.  I created that thread...

It was meant to be educational  and helpful...to let members know how to spot the spam posts and how to report it to the mods...

As you say...it was meant to be bumped occasionally to the top as a notice...

With more important issues and glitches hitting the membership, the constant "over exporsure" of bumping the HTTP thread to the top didn't sit well with everyone....

I bumped it to the top one morning as the spam started to roll in and suddenly found myself getting a royal rear end chewing...

Then I said some things...

and the other member said some things....

flamethrowers were drawn...

It got pretty ugly...

In about two minutes I cooled off and contacted the mods and asked them to remove the thread which they very graciously did for me....

I must apologize to the community...I'm afraid the HTTP thread was a victim of not acting very mature...I'm sorry folks...

The first of the overnight spams for tonight has just been posted. Reported in less than two minutes. Smiley Wink Let's see how long it sticks around.
