I seem to recall that we asked to have the Private Message notification fixed so you don't have to DELETE a message so the red number goes away ... WHEN will this be fixed ... it is taking WAY too long to get something SIMPLE fixed here ... I know this has been happening ever since you rolled out the new PM message format which is still WAY too cumbersome to work with ... if I open and read a message the red notification should GO AWAY ... how hard is that to fix????????????????????????

I agree that the notice SHOULD go away when you open the message but if you click on the message on the left in the inbox list it then removes the red notification. You don't have to delete the message if you don't want to.

Note to self.
(click on message on the left in the in box)
Will try to remember that. What I have had to do is hit reply to get it to clear. (comics..... that may have caused you to get a "blank" message😊 today)

I think that the message page works like this: by default, a preview of the most recent (or first unread) message appears when you open the page. To read the whole message, you may need to click on the message title on the left side of the screen.
If the message is short enough, you may see the entire message in the preview window, but the message will not count as "read" unless you actually click on the message title on the left.

Could not take seeing that red envelope with the ( 1 ) next to it.
It kept screaming at me to do something with it😨

Okay, not to be stupid but WHERE does it tell you to do that? It's still dumb the way its set up and the Notification should disappear (like the new message format, right?!?) when one opens a message ...

@eburtonlab In the body of the message is a place to click to see the entire message, that's what I normally do ... I seldom click on the message links on the left ... the whole layout (as others have stated) is really poor and confusing ... of course it wasn't broken before so that's why they "fixed it".

Stumbled across the red going away with the reply, and used that as my method of removal after the previous change where it no longer went away like it should.
Like you, I click on the message body on the right, and not on the left.
Don't do much messaging, so slow to learn😊 fast to forget😐

Yes, I know when I reply it goes away but I want to avoid a back and forth series of "Thanks" messages just to get rid of the red notification ... "Thanks" ... "Thanks" ... "Thanks" ... "Thanks" ...

It doesn't tell you I just poke at things to see what happens. Since the messages on the left still show bold like they are not read i figured clicking on them would make the system FINALLY recognize that I have read it. It is very annoying

It's sort of like trying to follow the posts in this thread. I don't know about anyone else, but for me it is so scattered that I get lost. Have to keep scrolling up, and down looking at the post #'s to find new posts.

That can happen when there are a lot of messages cross-posted.
If messages are appearing out of order, you can usually change the sort order using the Options menu in the upper right corner of the thread.
You can see exactly which post a user is replying to by clicking on the username in the "in reply to" line below the post's author username. That is handy when folks do not include any quotes for context.
