I seem to recall that we asked to have the Private Message notification fixed so you don't have to DELETE a message so the red number goes away ... WHEN will this be fixed ... it is taking WAY too long to get something SIMPLE fixed here ... I know this has been happening ever since you rolled out the new PM message format which is still WAY too cumbersome to work with ... if I open and read a message the red notification should GO AWAY ... how hard is that to fix????????????????????????

If messages are appearing out of order, you can usually change the sort order using the Options menu in the upper right corner of the thread.
You can see exactly which post a user is replying to by clicking on the username in the "in reply to" line below the post's author username. That is handy when folks do not include any quotes for context.

Thanks, I will give the "Options" a try. Just use to the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,.......... like they usually are instead of 1, 14, 15, 2, 8, 11, 12, 😊
EDIT: and it turns out I'm not smart enough to get them in order. I'm going to bed.

Are you seeing the posts on this board in the "threaded format" instead of the "linear format?" If so, go to the board's main page, click on the three vertical dots next to "Options," and select "Linear Format." You may have to leave the board and reenter for it to take affect, but all the threads on the board should then appear the way you're used to seeing them--if I understand your post correctly.
I tried to get a snippet, but the dropdown menu goes away as soon as I engage the snipping tool, and I'm too lazy to take a screenshot and edit it.

@pburn I had heard rumors of your laziness but I didn't believe them UNTIL you actually admitted it ... perhaps that can be a New Years Resolution for you to work on ... (hee - hee - hee)

@It doesn't tell you I just poke at things to see what happens. Since the messages on the left still show bold like they are not read i figured clicking on them would make the system FINALLY recognize that I have read it. It is very annoying
It's sort of like trying to follow the posts in this thread. I don't know about anyone else, but for me it is so scattered that I get lost. Have to keep scrolling up, and down looking at the post #'s to find new posts.
Here's the screen shot that @pburn was too lazy to do... I usually am too lazy to do them too. LOL
Go to the main community platform page then select the three dots and linear
The threaded format is AWFUL. They talked about making threaded the default on all boards....the only ones that liked the idea were ebay staff.

Thanks for aiding the elderly😊
I can now see these posts in order.
I can see where it may be useful the other way to follow the quote of a particular statement, but I want to read it all posts in a thread without the jump around factor.
Sorry for taking your topic off on a tangent.

Give me a break, people! Can't you see it was 2:30 a.m. in my time zone (Central) when I posted that comment? We're lucky it's even moderately coherent! 😂

Well almost🤔
Oddly posts 19-20 do not follow the "time-line" of the posts as the other posts due.

They're in order for me, so who knows what that's about. Something new to keep an eye on . . .

and until a screen refresh there are 2 posts #19
And the 2 posts previously, from last night, that were at one time #19-#20 are getting a new # when other posts are made. Not a real problem. Maybe I just need to take a nap.

@mr_lincoln notifications is going to take some time to fix. Khoros is improving notifications in general and I was told that this will be released in the next month or two. Thanks for your patience in dealing with this. I know it's super annoying to see an unread message notification when you've already read the message.

sheila@ebay Thanks for taking the time to reply ... there are two levels of annoyance ... one is the problem itself and the other is the lack of urgency to correct it. Before they make their "improved notifications" live you need to let those of us who actually USE the program review them and either approve it or tell them how it should work. Too often NON users program changes that really don't work or are NOT improvements.

That sounds like a sensible idea; however, there are disagreements even among frequent users on how any given feature should work--options that should or should not be available. You can review a couple of the threads on this board for proof of that.
I think a link to a tutorial would be of immense assistance--especially when a feature has been totally revamped, like the private message feature has. When any of us has been using a feature in one iteration for years and then access that feature one morning to see it's been totally revamped is unacceptable. We have to fumble around, clicking on this and clicking on that to see where the equivalent options are to what was available before the redesign.
sheila@ebay is always pushing for making the community a fun place to be. Well, IMO, it's not by posting threads about pets. It's about communicating how to use the boards (in a technical sense), especially when an feature has been totally scrapped and rolled out in an unrecognizable format. We received no notice, we received no instruction, and our feedback, of course, has no impact on any part of the design. But, by god, I got to post a picture of my dog and my cat, so . . .
This thread is just one example of the lack of communication and foresight on the part of eBay in regard to launching new or redesigned features. @mr_lincoln was unware of the process to mark a message as having been read. There is a way to do it--I figured out how (with some help from someone else, as I recall), but it's definitely not intuitive. There could have been a lot less frustration on my part and his part, as well as anyone else who couldn't/can't figure it out, if there had been a link to a tutorial or FAQ page when the new iteration was presented.

"pb" as usual you make an excellent point and I just started another thread today about another "alleged" improvement that is more like a dysfunctional potato trying to grow in a parking lot ... yep, it's the new and 3 steps backwards Reply to Feedback function ... thread link below if you care to see the details but the bottom line is it JUST showed up, NOTHING about it in my eBay messaging AND it DELETED All my pre-typed replies ... they are gone. AND it does NOT seem to retain any replies that I type ... how utterly stupid, another time waster.
If I am around I hope to post about this thing on the Weekly Chat.

Really too bad that they don't test their software changes before rolling them out.
