Two threads on this board in one day. 😏
Before the Private Message feature received a botched facelift, when we opened a message to read it, it would automatically be marked as read. We could change that status back and forth if we so chose, but the act of opening the message triggered the change in status to "read."
So, now, of course, that doesn't work, because we don't really "open" a message.
We can click on a checkbox and go to options and select "Mark Checked as Read," but does anyone know whether that's the only way to change a message's status from "not read" to "read" and vice versa?
I love enhancements that cause a user to perform more steps than previously required.
Thanks, eBay.

Actively selecting a message automatically marks it as read. The first message on the list will be pre-selected when you open PMs- to mark it as read you need to actively select it. So- click on the second message and the second message is automatically marked as read. Then click on the first message and that one will be automatically marked as read.
OK- I just got that darn HTML warning when none of my text was copy/pasted. I typed it all out. The only thing I did was add an italics on one word using the toolbar, then removed it before posting. THAT triggered the HTML error?? Geez, it's getting worse.

Huh? 🤣 My head literally spun around 360 degrees when I read that. Okay, well, maybe not literally . . .
Next time I receive a private message, I'll refer back to your post and see if I can make that happen. It seems like a pretty convoluted way to get a message marked read, IMO--especially compared to the way it used to work.

OK- I just tested something. All you have to do is click on the message (on the left). Even if it's already highlighted. Just click on it and it's automatically marked as read.

I would try that, but I haven't been able to log into the community this evening. I've tried all the tricks, but so far, no luck. Attempting to post this reply is my last shot before giving up.
Update: Yea! Victory! It worked!
Now I can go mess around with my "read" and "not read" messages.
