I can't respond to questions people have posted. I have the answer but there's no place to respond or post a comment.

There are some forums that require permission to post answers, Member to Member is one of them.

Along with not being able to reply on the Member to Member Support board, there are other boards which are informational only, or ones that require "membership," as it were, or threads that have been "locked" by moderators because of age or at the request of the original poster, etc.

In other words, not every single board in the Community is open to comments from the general Community membership. Just stick to answering the questions you are able/allowed to answer.

I understand threads that have been locked. I was asking about how to participate in the community.

In other words you're telling me that I can't participate unless I get lucky and see a reply button. If I don't, then tough luck.

Don't even bother trying to be a member of member to member.  I am a guide and could answer plenty.  I filled out the application as it were, and am waiting to hear...months later...nothing.

@evry1nositswindy  Alan had not added members for a while, then Rebecca was his "place holder" since she is up the ladder from the Community Director position.  Now that Sheila has taken over things might be different if someone applies. 

All of the boards need people that are helpful giving their time with good answers though so don't feel left out.    🙂

Those who have been approved to answer questions on the Member to Member board will have a rank of “rock star”, “superstar “, “visionary “ or “legend “.  Many answering there have been members of the community boards (which was originally the “Answer Center”) for many years.

There’s been a bit of discussion about it, eBay was putting “badges” on the profile of M2M board responders, but they’re a bit behind on it.

Agreed. There is one board for Mentors only, and fifteen boards, give or take, that are open to all. Plenty to go around.

Locked threads are "in the community." You didn't specify which kinds of boards or threads you were attempting to respond to, so I included locked threads in my reply. Had you been more specific in your original post, my answer might have been more specific as well.

Not exactly. You don't have to "get lucky" to find a board on which you can reply, since there is one board restricted to Mentors, and 15+ boards on which anyone can respond. I never said anything anywhere near "tough luck." 

I do know part of the criteria for being selected as a Mentor is one's demeanor or attitude toward others on the discussion boards.

I appreciated your comments on helping me in your first answer until your last line. "Just stick to answering the questions you are able/allowed to answer". It was condescending  because it goes without saying that I have to stick to those, I have no choice.

Your second answer gave me more information which I appreciated, until your last line again. You are implying I have an attitude, or bad demeanor like scolding a child. I have a great attitude and demeanor until someone talks down to me. I've seen a few mentors do that. We are simply asking for help. Thanks for helping me.

Mentors do deserve the recognition and adding badges to M2M board responders is part of my 2021 plan. I plan on kicking off this conversation with an eBay designer in early March.

@evry1nositswindy I'm sorry that you didn't hear back after you filled out the mentor application! I'm not sure what happened there, but if you don't mind filling out the application again and then tagging me here with an "@" mention, we'll take a look.
