Ignore/block function

Every discussion/message/social media platform has a block/ignore user function.

These boards used to have one too (anyone remember the lady of the lake?), why isn’t there one anymore?

We’re on the verge of losing a pillar of the ebay community because of one’s member poor impulse control and obsession, displayed in a harassment campaign that has gone one for months now, can you please do something since the mods are apparently blind to obvious bullying and stalking?

Hey @gone.c-33 thank you for the tag.  We have gone ahead and taken steps to address this situation at this time.

Kyle,
eBay

I don't know... I guess ebay wants us to be 'all inclusive', no matter how much misery it causes.

Re: Ignore/block function

One thought that has come to mind is that Khoros mods need to justify their jobs, but apparently, bullying and stalking is tolerated…

Re: Ignore/block function

I also wish there was an ignore block user button. If you have a stalker, you need to be able to block that person from reading your posts. A stalker can be anywhere.

Re: Ignore/block function

You can report the posts - arrow drop down on the right side.

Since people can come here with any user name even a new one, if someone is determined to harass someone ignore and block wont stop them.

Re: Ignore/block function

Not if they value their post history.

Also, many trolls too lazy to register new IDs. That is why ignore functions are an integral part of pretty much every other platform/communication method.

Re: Ignore/block function

It will at least slow the stalker down. And if they make a new name, the  person can keep blocking new names that stalk them. It doesn't hurt anything to have a ignore / block feature.

Re: Ignore/block function

If you stick around long enough, you may get the reasoning... Over the years we've had people come to these forums seemingly just to interfere with the process of  trying to provide help.  They see fit to jump onto a thread, hurling insults and baseless conjecture, trying to shout down knowledgeable posters and causing whatever mayhem they can.  We've seen these types single out one member for whatever reason, and try to gaslight them at every opportunity.  That's something none of us who spend time here, sincerely wanting to help other members, want to deal with.

Re: Ignore/block function

One has to have a little thicker skin to interact with others online vs face to face.  Stifiling communication even coming from sources with bad intent is a slippery slope.  What's next after a block/ignore function? AI getting involved and deciding it doesn't like your attitude or political/religious beliefs?

I think the moderators do a good enough job of reining in overzealous over the top replies etc.

As far social media platforms there  just for the sake of socializing (In Yourfacebook, Twerker, Instaglam etc.), it might be a needed feature to deal with keyboard bullies.  Even the most obnoxious people on eBay forums are pretty tame compared.......................

And if one wants to be self involved, conceited, be specific with they CHOOSE to socialize with, they need to go to some other venue that fits their needs to be in a clique, look down upon others who they deem not worthy of their status.

Stalking, Bullying, that's understandable, but that's not their responsibility to control that stalker or bully on a board they have no control of. They report the stalking and bullying to the proper authority to rectify the issue. IE, Mods, Admin. But to want to have the ability to basically "Control" other members themselves by "Blocking and Ignoring", that just puts one on a category that says they cannot adhere to Societal Norms. It shows they live in a bubble, have self involvement issues where they CHOOSE to control the other person versus trying to understand the other person they have an issue with, disagree with, do not like, look down upon, so on.

Yes, this has been a HUGE issue on Facebook for years. It has created certain groups, or cliques, in Groups all over Facebook who controlling who's able to participate in those Groups. Lot of people, main figures, in certain Groups talk in PM's and share messages among each other telling each other who to block. Then as discussions get started, a lot of those "Blocked" members never get to see what's going on.

Not needed. Not here. We don't need that childish High School "inclusive" B/S applied to this "Community".

Re: Ignore/block function

No one here is an elected official, there’s no “thought control” or slippery slope. No one has their free speech threatened.

Social media platforms have it. The vast majority of discussion boards have it. Email providers have it. Heck. Even the phone company allows you to block numbers.

Why shouldn’t one member be able to choose not to be exposed to a user’s posts meant to bully and harass them?

Khoros community management software DOES have an ignore function, just not sure why it’s not activated here.

Yes, EVERYBODY here has slippery slope "thought control" Police controlling their every post. They're called Mods. Trust me, I know. You should see the 8 dozen WARNINGS I've gotten over some of these soft members here. People like to whine. REPORT. There is no Freedom Of Speech here. This is a privately owned board. Members here are being given the privilege to be a part of this Community. Nobody has a Right to be here. Freedom of Speech is a Right. Nobody has "Rights" here. It's private, owners can do as they wish.

Whose to say WHEN it is Stalking or Bullying? Facebook Groups people, whole groups of people, BLOCK other Members of a Group just because they don't like what they say. Don't like their point of view. THINK what they're saying is either Bullying or Stalking, when in reality it just may be they don't get what they're saying, don't like what they're saying, disagree with what their saying. IF actual Stalking or Bullying is taking place, Mods see it. Mods respond to complaints. IF it's actually Stalking or Bullying that a Mod sees, it is dealt with. Member MAY FEEL like they're being Stalked or Bullied, but 37 other eyes looking at might not. That's why the Board here is not allowing Members TO CONTROL what's going on in this Community, as in Ignoring and Blocking other Members. That's the function of the Mods. Nobody else's.

Khoros is correct in not allowing that here. Other boards have experienced how harmful it is to an Online Community. IRL, if you have an issue with Stalking and Bullying, you don't just lock your doors and close your blinds thinking, hoping the "Stalking and Bullying" will just go away. It doesn't. You get the Authorities involved to confront and deal with that Stalker, Bully. Same here. Let Khoros deal with them, it.

Some people don't think pit bulls are a problem until their own daughter gets attacked. (My husband was viciously bit while riding his bicycle on our own street. The owner thought it was funny.)

Just changing their name would not get around a block, they would have to open a new account.
