I'm curious if there is a limit to the number of Posting IDs one can have here on The Community?

Is that written somewhere in the community guidelines, or is it "board knowledge" acquired from experience? Not YOU doing it, of course, but maybe observing others?
I know the giving helpfuls part is in the rules, but I couldn't find anything about posting supporting comments.
It used to be a written rule and I recall one of the pinks Kelley discussing it briefly (i.e. posting a scolding) following the granting of a lengthy vacation to someone.
It was also not allowed to create an ID to impersonate another ID and disrupt the board (e.g. if someone created an ID city_satins and pretended to be me only nicer or more disagreeable. That's happened multiple times but the rule against it wasn't written. But it was enforced.)
It also is not allowed to take over someone elses ID (regardless whether posting or buying/selling) but it's happened and depending on the situation, it's been tolerated sometimes (I know of at least one instance where the daughter of a seller who passed away took over her mother's selling AND her posting ID).
But that has not always been tolerated, especially when the 'take-over' is believed to be bogus and used for disruption (one poster forever lost her privileges after arriving in Chat one day claiming to actually be that poster's nephew, and announcing that the poster herself was now deceased, having been driven to suicide by the horrible regular posters on that board) The rule against taking over/passing along/or selling an eBay ID existed in the UA at one time - don' t know if it still exists. The rule against doing what that person did, was not written but resulted in a lengthy battle of words (a losing one, fortunately) as the still-living poster tried to argue with the eBAY Pink that someone from her church lady's group had posted that claptrap without her permission. Unsurprisingly, that and other feeble but creative excuses were rejected as well and that poster has never returned. Plus she now really is deceased.
/end fun facts from the wild and crazy history of these boards

Hm... good question. I see 15 replies here. And as far as I know, all these responses could be from the OP's 15 other posting ID's haha.
I have a follow up question though. If you have multiple posting ID's and one of them get suspended for say 30 days in this board... are you also suspended on your other ID's?

Yes, assuming they share an IP address (or possibly other information that can link them together). Ask me how I know. Or, better still, don't ask me, because Rule #12 prohibits me from answering.

That's an even better question.
I think you should only be able to have one Posting ID, then your better question doesn't have to be asked.

Each ebay ID needs only its own email account. I suppose those that have *alternative* personalities are only limited by how many browsers they have open, or how many computers in the same house/building, maybe even how many separate drives they have. I think ebay tracks via mac addresses, not IP address as they are not always static, but I'm guessing here.
Paypal allows 8 email addresses, that's how I have viewed the limitations in the past, although some have multiple paypal accounts too.
More than one person has posted on this board that this is a much smaller community than we think. I should have asked at that point who was talking to themselves! They have more time on their hands than I do.

Let me clarify ... I seem to recall "reading" that you can't use an alternate ID here if one is temporarily or permanently suspended ...

i will admit, i came on boards one night in another of my seller accounts to have it sign up for one of the new pages thread in the shipping section. not paying attention to it i added a couple of answers to other posts here. since then i haven't been able to find the other account on here anywhere ... but i'm keeping a watch out for it .....

if ebay tracks by mac address, then there is NO reason that id'd abusers, sellers & buyers, should be able to keep creating new accounts. as identified, each mac address could be shut down individually making it extremely expensive for the abuser types to keep buying new systems so they can abuse listing and buying. (somewhat off topic, sorry, but that doesn't make it any less true. i guess ebay just doesn't really want to shut them down?)

Not sure why you posted my User ID and then a smiling/winking emoji?
Please enlighten as to what you meant by this?
