How does eBay know who came to eBay Open?

I just saw that there is now a new badge for people to get, and it says "eBay Open 2017 Atendee". I'm just curious how eBay knows who went to eBay Open. I did not go this year, so maybe I missed something.

Hi @*coins,

The Community Team had a booth at eBay Open 2017. We asked people who stopped by the booth if they'd like to receive a Community badge - if they said yes we collected their User IDs and added the badge to their account.
