For some people, recognition is very important to them.

It is likely the single biggest reason that Ebay doesn't do away with Buyer feedback.  They can only receive positive feedback, so it really doesn't have a lot of meaning to anyone but that specific buyer.

Most other sites similar to Ebay has done away with buyer feedback years ago.  It simply doesn't matter to anyone but the buyers.
