.... and if i do im charging extra!    ...and if you do charge extra, eBay gets more.

If you don't want eBay to get so much, then lower you prices.

See how that works?

Actually you got off easy. The stated rate in most categories is 13.25% + 30 cent so you should gave paid $32.76.

Secondly, are you really going to tell us that you went ahead and listed then sold something without first finding out what the fees were? They are clearly posted for all to see. Or did you really think this was free to use?

Kinda indecisive

Or, check this out, what if Ebay wasn't greedy and lowered how much they squeeze us for.  See how that works?  Cool, huh.

You had a sale in April and May, and are just now noticing the fees?

Well I wish eBay would not take anything from me when I sell something, but unfortunately that is not how the free market works. The great thing about the Free Market is you have choices where to sell your product . If you come across a venue which charges less to sell meaning (the percentage of your sales ) and can also drive buyers to you at the same rate eBay can please share with everyone .

I don't work for eBay, not do I high five them when I have to deduct my seller fees , but I do understand the concept of business for  profit .

You mean the $245 item you never sent out because you saw that a month AFTER it sold on THIS thread?

@johsaeteur-9 ,

Here the fees for the other popular sneaker selling sites versus eBay.

  • eBay. 8% final value fee. 0% processing fee. VS.
  • GOAT. $5 seller fee. 9.5% commission fee. 2.9% cash out fee.
  • StockX. $4 seller fee. 10% transaction fee. 3% payment. processing fee.
  • Stadium Goods. 20% commission fee. 1% payment. processing fee.

I think I would stick with eBay if I were you my friend.

I.N.F.L.A.T.I.O.N

Any Hardvird Grad or any othet IVEy leguer will tell you some hair brain reason but it all boils down to Inflation.

When gas goes from under $2 to $4 (now)

When a nice pickup that sold for about $35K just a few years ago now costing $80K

When the AVERAGE home in CA sells for over $$ONE MILLION dollars

with all that I just mentioned (and I could go on) eBay is a Bargen.

For the sake of argument, you get a pass for claiming Ebay is a free market.  What negligence on your part.  I thought woke was against disinformation.

Ebay is categorically not a free market.  First, Ebay regulates said market:  the tenet of a free market does not have the landlord dictate.  Thats the opposite of a free market.

Ebay allows one to buy the their way to the top, regardless if populace wants said items, they're force fed.  Again, not a tent of free market.

"[T]hey took 30 dollars from my sale that was 245! im not selling on ebay ever again! and if i do im charging extra!"

Feeling better yet?
So -- assuming the standard 13.25% Final Value Fee (FVF) percentage that eBay charges on most items, on a total sale of $245.00, eBay's fee should have been $32.46.  You may have rounded down, from $32.46 to $30, though I don't know why anyone would do that in a rant.  $30 would be a very good and appropriate FVF percentage on a total sale of $245.00.

But then I looked at the recent sales of the OP's eBay ID:  Two (2) pairs of men's athletic shoes, one of which sold for $200.00 and the other for $220.00.

And I looked at eBay's fee charts:  Men's Athletic Shoes, when the total amount of the sale is $150.00 or more, carry a FVF percentage of 8%.  That is more than five percentage points less than eBay's "standard" FVF percentage.  Moreover, when pairs of men's athletic shoes are sold on eBay for a total sale price of $150.00 or more, eBay doesn't even retain the $0.30-per-order flat fee.

Is your gripe about paying "only" 8%, one of eBay's lower Final Value Fee percentages?

As for "charging extra" for any future listings -- meaning raising the starting/asking price, that's probably a good idea.
Many eBay sellers -- including my selling ID -- take the position that our buyers pay our fees.

You got it!  And you boiled it down to its simplest form.  One sentence.   Thank you.

If you want to make $245 off of your sale, you need to sell it for $275.

And if nobody will pay that?

Then you have chosen an item that doesn't have enough margin, and you need to find something that will provide profit.  It is not ebay's responsibility to see to it that you make money and feed your family - it is up to you.

List it for $275 - better days ahead.

I agree with you, that would be nice.

However ebay is a business. They are in business to make money.

Yes, if theirs fees were lower that would be great.

I don't like paying fees any more than you do.

It would also be great if the supermarket charged me less for a loaf of bread and a half gallon of milk.

Unfortunately they are also in business and out to make money.

Fortunately we as sellers have the right to take part in this "greedy" money grab if we don't like it.

You need so anger management and learn how to read better. First off I'm not Woke one bit so  not sure where you got that from , but that must be a  self reflective issue . Secondly, learn to read better if that is a capability of yours . Where did I say eBay is a free market ? I said eBay works within a free market allowing them to set their rules if you want to conduct business on their site .

You have a lot of issues that you need to resolve starting with basic reading skills.
