This new and improved cancellation thing is already proving a pain.

Ahh, the bright minds at eBay Central never disappoint with their new and improved ideas. The new cancellation policy went into effect on the 28th, yesterday, and I got my first one(under my main selling ID). The buyer bought an item at 3:51 AM EST and requested a cancellation at 3:58 AM EST. This new feature only allows buyers to not have to make a commitment and be responsible for their own actions. Yes, some will say that it saves you from the whole return process, but in reality, it just dumbs down the buying process even further.

 

So let's say, I go out and buy 100 items tonight and request cancellations within a minute later. Do I receive any kind of ding for doing this? I doubt it. And why force the sellers to do extra work when eBay can already tell if you have shipped or not by tracking being uploaded? The majority of sellers use eBay shipping services or upload so why not allow an opt-out for these sellers, removing them from having to do anything at all? If you ship via eBay you can opt out. I know of many sellers that ship hundreds of items each day. 

 

Yep, that's my hot air for the day. At least one thing never changes on eBay for my being here over 25 years. 

Change - take it or leave it.

 

Thanks for the extra work eBay. My blocked buyer list will only grow more quickly with this new change. Thankfully I sell on several platforms.

How is that any different than it was before? Previously, the buyer could request the cancellation through that same process within 60 minutes, so your example here would have been possible under the old rules as well.

 

Personally, there are some things I don't like about the new policy, but I'm not seeing how it would have made a difference in this example. What am I missing?

You would have to research the difference yourself. So what you are implying is eBay made NO CHANGE then on August 28th. Hmm.  I don't think so. Read the new cancellation policy. I'm not here to explain my post.

@greatmidwestcoin I didn't say or imply they made no change. I'm saying the change they made would not affect the example you gave.

 

Previously, buyers had a 60 minute window in which to request a cancellation, now they have until the order is marked as shipped.

 

In the example you gave, you said the order was placed at 3:51 AM EST and cancellation requested 7 minutes later at 3:58 AM EST.

 

Since 7 minutes is less than 60 minutes, I was just pointing out that cancellation request could have been done exactly the same way under the old policy, so in that regard the new policy has not allowed for anything different than would have already been possible before.

 

You certainly don't have to explain anything and there's no reason to get defensive. It wasn't a "gotcha", I was genuinely curious as to why this specific cancellation would be upsetting, problematic, or "a pain" for you, given that it would have been possible under the old system as well, and wondering if there was something I may have missed.

 

But you are of course free not to indulge my curiosity. 😊

just mark it shipped as soon as possible. Not sure if that will work.  worth a try..   I can see this is gonna be PAINFUL for sellers per usual.

I don't understand where the extra work comes from?

Before they had an hour to ask to cancel an order through Ebay.

And they've always been able to message the seller and ask them to cancel an order.
