why is it i get charged for shipping when the buyer pays for it ? i sell something for 275 and the buyer gets charged 20 .95 shipping thats a total of 295.95. i get 240 and pay 16.64 for shipping? how does that work? something is not right here.

Probably not a good idea to make suggestions like this to the OP, even in jest.

Next post from him would be "Hey, something's wrong here. The post office made me pay for shipping."

I usually agree with you but I have to say this is wrong.

On many platforms, such as Poshmark, the buyers pay shipping but the seller doesn’t receive that part of the buyer’s payment. They receive a prepaid shipping label good for any package up to 5lbs. (I personally love it).

I suspect a lot of newcomers are confused by this if they had been accustomed to other platforms.

Seriously? The buyer pays for shipping. You use that to ship. What is so hard to understand. Did you think eBay employees were going to come to your house, get the item and ship it for you?

EVERYONE is misunderstanding you. You received a total of $295.95 from the buyer. From this total, eBay took their fees which left you with $240. However, from this 240, you still have to put out another $16.64 for shipping. Leaving you $223.36 from the $295.95 received. I get your point & hear you loud & clear!!

So, 9.999,999 internet shopping sites/platforms, the selling entity/seller has to 'pay' for the shipping label in order to get a shipping label.

Apparently, 1 is done in this strange way.

I find this intriguing but since I don't use Poshmark, yet, and based on their website information there is a flat rate for shipping of $7.xx something for items up to 5 pounds, all of which get shipped USPS priority mail and is either domestic or Canada shipping. Do you know from experience what they do for packages over 5 pounds or international shipments? How do they address the added cost for packages that exceed the dim limits set by USPS?

Overall sounds like a great process.

Mercari and Vinted also do prepaid labels. And no, I don’t see the shipping money, and am not charged fees on shipping. I pay a flat fee of 20% on the item price, excluding shipping and sales taxes.

Thanks for the clarity I could not tell from the OP if the $240 was what they received before or after they subtracted the shipping cost.

When you sell an item heavier than 5lbs (such as heavy shoes/boots, a heavy coat, or decor/electronic), there’s a “Need a heavier weight label” button in your “You just sold XXX” message. You get charged a very nominal fee depending on the weight (in kg in attached picture because Canadialand).
