i was under the impression that its not the sellers faults if the buyer asks to cancel after a purchase, especially when ALL communication was on ebay messages and they clearly asked. I appealed it and ebay refused to remove it and told me:
We only remove a defect when:
this cant be right....

Unless you canceled the order as out of stock, you don't get a defect when buyer ask to cancel an order.

there is clearly a defect, which ebay refused to remove when i appealed...

What reason did you use to cancel? Your dashboard will have a record of the defect and there are only two things which will cause one, unless you are talking about your shipping metrics which is different. The reasons you mention above sound more like shipping problems.

Perhaps you were wrongfully accused, It wouldn't be the first time.

What defect are you seeing and where? Can you post a screenshot?

When was this 'purchase' and 'cancel' request?
ebay does NOT listing 'defects' right away, so if your seller hub/seller performance is showing a defect, you can download the report and see what/who/when etc.
Did you see this on the report?
Did you run a report?
Was this 'cancel' on there? or was the defect for something else?

I refunded a buyer due to an issue with one stamp after stamps were mailed. I got hit with an 'out of stock' 'ding' for issuing a refund.
It was not 'out of stock'.
I did not 'hit' the out of stock button.
I believe artificial intelligence might have come into play for it.
I didn't appeal mine for I don't have the time to waste time...LOL
Yes, it does happen sometimes for I have been there.
Best to just sell lots of items to higher your rating score from the ding.
