Ahh, the doctrine of clean hands…
Be careful with that lawsuit. You will be bringing attention to the fact you haven’t claimed any of the hundreds of sales you’ve had over the years.
Couple that with, you have no case. You’re just exposing yourself.
The fact you didn’t shut down your eBay’s listings as soon as you found out, will also not play in your favor.

FYI - In order to have a lawsuit, you need to show harm or damages. Not understanding what your tax liabilities are hardly falls under either. That would be like buying and driving a car and suing the manufacturer for not telling you how to make lefthand turns.

Oopsie! Too late! 😎

There is no new "tax" threshold.
There is a new threshold for payment processors to report payments processed.
It is not eBay's responsibility to inform you about tax laws.
But even so, eBay has been telling sellers about this repeatedly for years.

It's not Ebays job to keep you updated on tax laws.
Let us know how that lawsuit goes.

Dear IRS, I want to sue eBay because they did not tell me that they were going to tell you about the 1.3K items that I have sold. Now I will have to report my income. Please look into what eBay did and take care of this for me.

There are changes every year with the IRS and filing taxes.
This has been coming for years.
This is with all platforms where people made some sort of money whether it's Etsy, Stub Hub, Pay Pal, eBay, Square, Cash App, Postmark, Airbnb, DoorDash, Uber, Lift and so on.

I sold just over 5K---after fees, shiiping etc, I probably made 500 bucks...if I need to hire an accountant, I will have next to nothing

You don't need an accountant. Look at IRS Schedule C and its instructions; it's not brain surgery.

@st.matthew2012 I can tell you why you are not making money. I see you sold 3 vinyl records at 99 cents each. Those probably put you in the negative after ebay fees so I would not start any auction at 99 cents. Also you sold some promo copies for $1.99. I am estimating you made 60 cents on those. You need to rethink your pricing strategies.

If one can't have fun, one might as well find the highest curb in the neighborhood and do this - but of course not head first. The only thing woke about me is when I awake in the morning at a very early time - wake up the alarm clock around 2:30 - 3:00 am for many decades.
