It's not eBay's responsibility to make you aware of Federal Tax Laws.
That said, when the threshold for 2024 was confirmed in December eBay did in fact inform eBay sellers via announcements. Also understand that the threshold for 2024 which was announced in December 2023 at $600 so the recent announcement by the IRS in December INCREASED the threshold to $5000.
Of course none of this really matter, you are required to report ALL income regardless if you receive a 1099-K or not.

Puh-lease come back and tell us how that lawsuit comes out. No one ever does.
Also tell us why you shouldn't pay taxes when everyone else has to.

No, you're not.

That will take you on the road to no where. But let us know how your lawsuit worked out. You still can remain an eBay member even if you dragged up your eBay selling anchor that won't close for 150 days after you "officially close" - see a seller is still liable for credit card purchases on all sales for that period of time. That is in the User Agreement that you agreed to & electronically signed when you became an eBay member.
Received a 1099 -INT for a grand amount of $1.20 in the mail just yesterday and 3 1099s for much larger amounts a couple weeks ago - no one told me they were coming either - but expected to receive them.
Been filing IRS 1040s tax form since 1960 when I received my 1099s - am a '44 model. Plus state income taxes for 33 years of my working career & retirement years claimed income on my eBay sales from 2010 thru 2021 and never once received a 1099K but it was income I received that can be sure enough tracked by my SSN that I have had since I was 16 (first part time job). Only once was audited - it was a "random" no foul no harm audit - had my ducks in a row.
It is always prudent to keep a personal record of your eBay sales one by one, year by year.

eBay has a post in Seller Center regarding 1099k and tax reporting, if you didn't read it how is that eBay's fault? Good luck with your lawsuit make sure you show your lawyer the link below.

And this announcement posted 12/9/2024
ETA...if you are closing your account you might want to end your 86 listings. It will take up to 60 days to close your account since you have recent sales to ensure there are no returns or chargebacks.

One more thing in that eBay User agreement you signed there is a section about bringing a lawsuit against eBay. suggest to read it and see what it states. Just do a google type search in the Help & Contact link on most eBay pages - look at the top or bottom. It could be enlightening.

I can save you some time: You have no case. The "new" tax requirements have been in the works for the past few years. Sorry, but the courts won't reward you for failing to pay attention.

You have been an eBay member since 2006. It seems that in that 18 or 19 years, you would have made yourself aware of the announcements and updates that eBay publishes (for both buyers and sellers), but it sounds like you never read any of these.
If you are closing your account because you did not make yourself aware of any updates that eBay published, then so be it. You will get nowhere with a lawsuit so save your money and time.
By the way, one of the negatives you received was for a damaged item received. You replied that you wrote "fragile" on the box, like that was going to insure gentle handling. You should know that the post office handles about 23 million packages per day and they cannot, will not, and do not give special handling to packages that say "fragile" on them. A package has to be wrapped to withstand being dropped off a ten story building and run over by a semi truck. Writing "fragile" on the box is a nice touch but is basically meaningless.

One thing I would be cautious about is drawing attention to yourself for appearing to not have reported your sales in prior years by being angry about having this additional paper trail this year.

The OP is just ranting. I’ll bet my donuts to your dollars we will never hear from him again.

The Federal threshold for the 1099 is one thing but have you looked into whether your state has a lower threshold? Many states do.
