Did anyone else receive a email saying based on their selling stats they were being offered a $250 gift card to participate in a trial and survey of a new eBay feature? Well I got one, said it starts today the 15th, but when I try to follow the link to participate it tells me the survey is not currently active?
Any one know what's going on with this?

Thank you for catching that, Gurlcat! I guess I had the word "spelling" still on my mind when I wrote that. It should have been "selling". Although I am an expert in English usage, spelling, punctuation and diction, I still make mistakes myself as I get older. I am constantly proofreading my messages and correcting my own mistakes made by my 74-year-old fingers!
But I sure do pick up on fishy stuff...
Cheers, Duffy

I understand; I'm the same way. That's why you might notice virtually all my posts and replies are edited. I wouldn't have pointed this out, in fact I doubt I would have even noticed, had it not been such a 'YOWSA' meta-irony. You even did it twice!
But my all-time favorite (typically in the broader social media arena) is when somebody writes "Your stupid" .
EDIT (see?)
NO! -It's when someone writes "Your a idiot". I get such a jolt of giggles inside, imagining hearing them say "uh idiot" like some redneck caveman. 🤣

How much is your time worth? $250 isn't very much, especially if they send you a 1099 to go along with it.
They said the time commitment was 2 to 2.5 hours, so let's call it $100 an hour.
I'll go out on a limb and says that's more the average eBay seller makes. But it's probably moot, since the survey does appear to be a scam of some sort.

So a payment for your time is only good if you can hide it from the IRS?
You do know that you are suppose to claim ALL income to the IRS regardless of there being a 1099K or not!

i went through the help bot and had them give me a call and the rep contacted the corresponding department while he put me on hold. i just forwarded that email by the way. and i haven't tried doing that survey or anything yet until i get 100% confirmation that it is legit, i def am hesitant im not getting hacked or scammed over a potential $250

Im going to take this advice

Also for whomever said that most ebay sellers dont make $250 a month, ive went from starting a new account to making $1600 in 2 or so months and this month hoping to close the month between $3500 - $5000

Who knows what "most" sellers make but you sure can earn a full-time living here. I quit my last jobby-job (which I was down to only 10 hours a week at already) in summer 2021. Now I just sell old lady jewelry while watching Youtube, sleeping like a housecat, yacking with friends, and taking a walk here and there.
When I had this 3-month jubilee I knew I better screenshot it, LOL!!! -No I don't usually do THIS well.

Congrats my goal is to get to 5k a month than 10k a month. I also sell on other platforms as well

If you have desirable inventory and are even a smidgen less lazy than I, you will get there.

Did you find out if your message was real?

i believe they were actually saying most eBay sellers don't make $100 an hour, i.e. $250 for 2.5 hours work. I'd wager that is accurate.

I would agree, my goal is to get to $300 a day thats my major goal point, im almost at $100 after only 3 months not too shabby

I did not no one ever got back to me, the research & dev team that was supposed to contact me never did, the ebay rep i originally spoke to by getting a call through the help & contact bot never got back to me like he said he would over the phone. Another example of awful ebay support. Its very evident unless you are a big dog on their seller platform the support is awful.
Even a negative feedback I received for that the buyer stated they were satisfied with the item my listing was accurate but they were leaving negative feedback because i didnt accept a lower price, which violates their terms of feedback manipulation and price manipulation. Also falls under buyers remorse. I was told by 10 reps over the phone they would be removing the feedback as it violated multiple ebay policys and fell under buyers remorse. They refused to remove and said it didnt violate policy contradicting every single one of what the 10 live representatives I spoke to. I even spoke to 2 managers which indicated the same thing but said they had to have the feedback removal team remove it and said it was clear as day that the buyer was vioating terms. even after having managers re escalate it. I got a **bleep** response that they wouldn't remove it because it didn't violate policy's and was the buyers opinion.
The eBay customer support is a big joke and they very clearly dont stand behind or protect their sellers unless they are bringing in some serious money. Its actually sad because eBay couldn't exist without the sellers. How do they expect to attract new sellers to grow into large income for them if they provide poor support to people at their start?
I used to sell on ebay 5+ years ago and was making at minimum $3k a month, and at that point the customer support was amazing. A lot has changed and I would say its for the worse.

Its not hard to find ebays phone number but i had started a call back through the chat bot, I'm on the phone with eBay a lot for multiple reasons. I usually have to start a call 3 - 4 times when I do need to speak with them because so many of their customer service reps are absolutely awful or rude. It seems like the ones that don't speak good English are the worst.
I know that last statement sounds horrible, but as with many company's (im not sure if ebay outsources) but the outsourced call centers & foreign customer service reps that don't have a good sense of American culture always seem like they are just there for a pay check to me. It doesn't seem like they actually care to help the customer. As with eBay they seem to quite often provide incorrect information, lie to you, make promises they can not keep, and at times even rude and hanging up the phone before an issues is resolved. They also always refuse to connect you with a supervisor or manager.
Now when I get a good rep or someone that has been at eBay for years, they actually seem very educated on the eBay policy's and seem to care about helping you be a successful eBay seller. I have had the terrible ones refuse to escalate stuff that needs to be escalated. The good ones, actually investigate, read through eBay messages, and will inform and guide you. I have even had some of the bad ones flat out tell me they are not allowed to discuss or educate me on eBay policies although they are available for everybody to read on line. The good ones, will answer and educate you on things about the policy you don't understand or misunderstood.
Sorry for going down the rabbit hole but you can find eBays customer service phone number on google quite easily if you want to call them. It's a lot easier having the chat bot have someone to call you though.
