Did anyone else receive a email saying based on their selling stats they were being offered a $250 gift card to participate in a trial and survey of a new eBay feature? Well I got one, said it starts today the 15th, but when I try to follow the link to participate it tells me the survey is not currently active?
Any one know what's going on with this?

If it's legit, that's some survey at roughly $100 an hour for your time.

You posted your question at 7:21 am EDT, which would be 4:21 am PDT. I think it was probably too early at that point. I would try again later, during business hours in California where eBay HQ is.
It's possible that the first step would be a short screening survey to determine if you fit the demographics and/or characteristics that they are looking for. Not everyone who received the email will necessarily be "Chosen to take part ...".

You stated the invitation came thru email. Did it also come in your eBay Messages and/or just your email? I tend to be suspicious about unsolicited surveys. So proceed cautiously and do your homework.

smells fishy to me!

it came to my email but i spoke to ebay over the phone today they assured me it was legit and came from their research & development team. He contacted them while I was on the phone, apparently it was based on my seller activity.
I am still a little weary of it thought, but I should be getting contacted directly from the research and development team shortly. Ill update you guys.

I completely forget eBay operates on PDT, it would make sense that it is not open yet. I would assume it wont be open until afternoon which will be around 3pm here.

How did you actually contact eBay to verify? There is no phone number to call anymore. You need to go through their automated 'Contact Us' process from their site to initiate them calling you back.
Just want to make sure you are not being scammed.

$250 per
Seems that to be meaningful, or of any actual value to eBay the survey would need to be based on the input of "thousands" of sellers.
$250 X thousands............................. =
ETA............ seems far fetched, but if it were a scam it would likely have been ready to roll at 1st nibble rather than ................ "not currently active".

Where did you get EBAY phone number? EBAY does NOT publish their phone number.

There's more than one thing fishy about this email you received supposedly from eBay:
1. Don't trust anything that eBay's "Customer Service" reps say over a phone number that you call.
2. I'm surprised that the email refers to you as Mike instead of your eBay user name.
3. The email says the dates are July 15-26, which is only 11 days, NOT three weeks in the following line.
4. It is not eBay's nature to underline and use bold letters. That is a common tactic of fake emails.
5. I haven't seen "e-gift" spelled and referred to in that way. I may be wrong, but it smacks of phony.
6. It's highly unusual for the email proofreaders at eBay to skip over misspellings: "you spelling habits" should have easily been corrected to "your spelling habits". Again, a common tip-off something may be wrong.
7. Asking you to upload a brief video should be a very big red flag. This is weird and opens you up to downloading malware.
8. What the heck is a "feedback / diary study"? That is also a misuse of punctuation. Another tip-off.
9. As another has mentioned, $250 for 2- 2.5 hours is $100 and hour. That's pretty excessive and may be intended to play on the recipient's greed.
10. I don't see any ending salutation to the email, although you may not have snipped the entire page.
If the email is legitimate, it is fraught with errors and puts more than a few question marks in my mind. I wouldn't click on any link in an email like this for anything in the world, no matter what address it came from.
Cheers, Duffy

I also think it smells fishy - eBay normally doesn't pay you to do stuff, particularly so extravagantly.
Check the source code for the email.
