single item GTC

I should know better than to ask ebay planted scripted robots a question like this but here goes. OK with your ALL HOLY GTC alot of my items are 1 of a kind stuff. So I list it and it sells and the stupid program asks me why am I ending my item early.  I know back in the day ebay penalized you for ending items early. So I am NOT ENDING MY LISTING EARLY.  It sold. How do I fix this. Why wont my item end on its own??  How can I make it end ?  Please dont come back saying to end it early. Im NOT ending it early. IT SOLD !!!! PERIOD !!!

@rock_crushers_unlimited

"But this is what ebay says about ending listings early...it risks disappointing potential buyers..."

There is a difference between ending a listing that has quantity available and ending a listing that's out of stock. There is nothing to be concerned about ending a listing that's out of stock.

@earlyant-77

"Why else would it be a global setting for all GTC listings that are/have never been multi-quantity?"

Because GTC being the only fixed price listing duration is new. The existing out of stock feature was probably not taken into consideration when they put the policy in place- or maybe it was but they decided it wasn't worth the expense to change because not a big enough percentage of sellers use it.

Thanks but Your not up to date on things I see. Oh yes ebay did. If you ended a more than 1 listing early in a month they had a pop up that said .... You already ended an item early this month ending anymore could hurt your seller rating or even be charged a fee. Please dont tell me Im wrong I had it happen many times. Im guessing thats NOT in place any more. But this is what ebay says about ending listings early. ......

When you can cancel a listing

If you cancel a listing, it risks disappointing potential buyers, so we strongly discourage all our sellers from doing so. However, we understand that there are times when a cancellation might be necessary. Some valid reasons include:

  • The item is lost, broken, or no longer available
  • You made a mistake, such as listing the wrong starting price in an auction

So how hypocritical is it to say dont do it when THEY ARE THE ONES MAKING US DO IT by forcing GTC on us.

You have such a way with words.  It really makes us all want to work with you and assist you. heart_eyes

The policy you are quoting says NOTHING about a penalty.  So NO I'm not wrong.

I think you may be confusing some of the rules for Auctions with the rules for GTC.  They are not always the same rules that apply to both.  There are times when you cancel an Auction that Ebay may charge the FVF to you even when you end the auction early.  Some specific things have to be in place for that to happen.

The same is NOT true for GTC.  You can cancel a GTC at any time you choose for any reason you may have.  And do that without a penalty.

No one is being hypocritical here.  You just misunderstand a few things.  It doesn't have to be a big deal.  Just learn and move forward.

How are you ending your listings? I can't remember the last time I was asked for a reason. I end through the seller hub and you don't have to specify a reason, even ending only a single item.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

I'd still like to know why we can't end auctions with zero bids in bulk.

To be fair (not that I want to support someone who keeps insulting us)- but on my main selling account it does not ask for a reason when I end a GTC listing. I have another account that qualifies as a new account and it always asks me for a reason when I end a GTC listing- which is very odd, but there you go.

For me, some do ask me why when I'm cancelling and some don't.  I've actually have not figured out the logic as to when the question is asked and when it isn't.

But what I do know is with our without a question, there is no penalty for ending a GTC listing.

I don't think the OP is trying to insult anyone, I think they have a valid concern, are upset about it, and know how things usually pan out here.

From what you just indicated there does seem to be an issue (where some sellers are being asked to proved a reason for cancelling a GTC Listing) ... and herein lies the problem and the concern that the OP has.

Providing a reason why you're ending a GTC listing doesn't mean there's any impact to your account. There is no reason for concern.

This.  You select item no longer available and move on.  It has no negative impact if you ending the item the item is no longer available no matter the reason so it is valid to end the listing.  The op is worried for nothing.

I think here it's all about knowing there will be no impact to your account.

You and others seem to know this, but from the OP's experience and belief, they felt there would be a penalty/fee to cancel early.

It is hard to experience a penalty fee that doesn't exist.  They may have gotten one for some other reason, but not for what they have described here as Ebay has never had such a fee.

So they may have believed it could happen, that is clear.  But it isn't something that did happen to them for the reasons they have described here.

I have no idea what you mean by stating ..."know how things usually pan out here."  I've been here a long time, and when details are clearly shared, many questions and problems can be solved or explained.   I have learned many many things by reading this board and have had many of my problems solved by knowledgeable posters.

I have seen posts by some posters, though, that offer little in the form of help or clarification of problems.  Some posters will only agree with anyone complaining, without trying to see what the problem actually might be, or they do not have the knowledge to be able to help.   Offering empathy is one thing, but being outright anti-ebay all day long is another.  I have plenty of complaints about this or that concerning ebay, but it isn't all bad all the time as some choose to believe and promote.

And that's why you have such a great solution-to-post ratio*--you're knowledgeable about selling and willing to share that knowledge with others to actually solve their problems. It's a good way to judge a poster--better than the number of helpfuls, for example.

*About 1 solution for every 90 posts (give or take, plus or minus, more or less).
