question about INR with attempted delivery...

If tracking shows attempted delivery with 2 notices left by USPS and a buyer opens INR, am I covered for anything? It has not been sent back to me.

I will open a missing mail search with USPS and get the item sent back to me if possible. And I know that if an item is undeliverable, it is not covered under the MBG.

But I am assuming that since he opened an INR I have to send the refund to the buyer because it's showing not delivered, correct?

I would rather send a refund before ebay has to step in and take action if that's the case...

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

I believe that's a winnable case on your part.

Enter the tracking into the case and add the comment that it has been attempted twice.

You have time.. You only get a defect if ultimately eBay has to refund for you.

  • The date of delivery or attempted delivery;
  • The recipient's address, showing the zip code (or international equivalent) that matches the one on the Order details page. If the zip code is unavailable, the recipient's city/county must match; and

No; see the above answer. If an INR claim has been filed and the tracking shows Delivery Attempted, eBay should count that in your favor.

Worst-case scenario: if the buyer does not pick up the item from the post office in time (I think they generally have around 15 days to do so), it will be returned to you without charge.

P.S. The package isn't missing; it's awaiting pickup. You could possibly file for a delivery intercept (since it's still sitting in the destination post office), but that should not be necessary, as eBay should not be finding in the buyer's favor (given what the tracking shows), and if they don't pick it up it will eventually come back to you anyway.

Was this a high-value sale? Signature Confirmation required? (i.e. over $750?)

Yep and in that case you are still under no obligation to refund, however. many sellers do after deducting for postage & perhaps a handling fee.

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

Tracking should say 'returning to sender' before a refund...

Give the buyer a refund and then buyer picks up package. It's an old scam...

I think the package hangs around in the post office for so many days before it is returned to you.

Will eBay take action...could this be considered a 'refuse' from the buyer to pick up?

Sneaky buyer if you ask me...

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

@a_c_green

No, this was only about $50 including shipping.

The tracking scan says :

April 3: Out for delivery

April 3: Notice Left (No Secure Location Available)

April 8: Reminder to Reschedule Delivery

I assumed they would just return it to me after a week or so, but since there were no more updates since the 8th, I opened a mail search with USPS in order to "locate it" and have it sent back to me (they ask if the package should be sent to mailer or receiver).

Like @12345jamesstamps  said, I don't want to refund if they can still pick up the item. I have no problem refunding the purchase price minus shipping if I receive the item back.

I have until the 22nd (next Tuesday) to respond to the INR.

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

@mamacassidy   Did you enter the tracking into the case?

The policy I linked you states that eBay considers delivery attempt as delivered so you will win the case.

At worst, it could take getting human eyes on it rather than the AI Bots

I would suggest not waiting. Be sure to upload the tracking number to the INR case. It's not lost anyway; both you and the USPS know where it is right now. If tracking shows that it is on its way back to you, hold off on refunding until you actually receive it.

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

Ok, yes, I just went ahead and entered the tracking and the other information into the case.

Thank you for your help @pikabo-icu and @a_c_green .

I'm just going to let it ride now and see how they decide.

I'll come back in a couple of days to update you when I hear something!

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

The system allows you to send a message through the claim. Open the claim details, click send buyer a message, and include a comment that USPS says the package is available for pickup.

I'd do that just in case the buyer hasn't checked tracking or didn't get the USPS slip.

@mamacassidy   Thank you!!  It will be nice to see the resolution. So often we don't get to know how it turned out.

Again if the worst happens and the bot sides against you, just appeal and/or get on chat & request a call back to get human eyes on it.

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

Not so fast! There is NO guarantee that eBay will enforce its own policies when it comes to delivery attempts. In fact, I just had this happen to me.

1000013074.jpg

Tracking clearly shows that a delivery was attempted, and a notation made to arrange for redelivery. Yet, the buyer filed an INR. I submitted proof of tracking including a screenshot of the entire tracking page from USPS. Two days later, the buyer opened a case and eBay immediately awarded his claim. This tells me that eBay is probably making the review process more autonomous, considering the ever-increasing flood of system abusers and carrier issues. EBay would need an army of properly trained, experienced reviewers to handle them. Too costly.

Therefore, the only way to insure an INR win is to bypass this system and appeal to the Facebook crew. This is what I did, which resulted in a rare reversal. One thing I was happy to see was that it took them a good 20-mins to review the evidence before reversing it. That told me it was human-reviewed by a qualified rep.

Re: question about INR with attempted delivery...

I just wanted to follow up and let you know that today I asked ebay to step in and resolve this, and they decided in my favor.

The item was sent back to me, and I refunded the item's purchase price (separately from the INR case).

Thank you all for your help! I was just going to go ahead and refund him the full amount until you pointed out that I was covered by the shipping policy, so you taught me something new and saved me a few bucks! 😄
