Re: postage

Its your mistake i say you honor the sale. We all make mistakes but i never ask someone else to pay for mine. JMO

You can contact the buyer and explain but in the end it could harm you more than the $42. Whats the cost to your buisness if you do not honor the sale?

Re: postage

You didn't provide a lot of information on what the item was and/or how you had the listing setup. What were the dims and weight of the item and were you using calculated, flat rate or free shipping? I had difficulty finding "Guernsy" did you by chance mean Guernsey by chance? If so Guernsey, I believe is part of the UK so maybe this is getting treated as a domestic sale although it is shipping to an Island in the middle of the English Channel.

Since you are in the U.K. I don't know a lot about your postal service and how it treats or calculates shipping rates to Guernsey but it is probably not unlike how U.S. sellers deal with shipments to Hawaii and the other U.S. protectorate islands. This is probably going to be  tough one for sellers on this forum to answer you may want to try the U.K. seller forum.

Re: postage

Contact your buyer ,Tell them about the mistake, Maybe they will let you off the hook.  If they are not willing to go along with you send it out as a lesson learned!

Re: postage

Send it out... it's your fault you didn't enter the correct weight and measurements on the listing (not the buyer's fault). Chalk it up to being a learning experience

Re: postage

@clifford3470I looked at the only active listing you have and it said it would only be $27.00 to ship from you to the USA via the ebay international (global) shipping, which i think is very cheap as it includes customs and delivery. Are you sure your weight and dimensions are accurate on your listings?

If the $42.00 loss is too much for you, you can notify the seller about the error, apologize, and ask if they would be willing to split the cost of the shipping. If they say No, you can always cancel, but you will get a defect on your account and the buyer can leave you negative feedback. If you can afford the loss, I would ship the order and consider it a learning experience. I've had several of those when I first started selling and I never made the same mistake(s) again. You have a lot of sales so maybe you just input the wrong weight and dims on that item.

Re: postage

Hate to say it but I'm on the side of those saying send it out and take it as a lesson learned.

You are making an assumption since seller never disclosed that information nor what the item was. It is entirely possible eBay has some error in their shipping calculations and is treating Guernsey as a domestic shipment since it is part of the U..K. but the U.K. postal service is treating it differently with regards to the actual shipping since it is an island in the middle of the English channel. I don't know enough about the U.K. eBay site and what sellers deal with on their account settings or shipping or how their postal service works. OP would be better off asking on the U.K. site as was advised.

Re: postage

I don't see any items in your sold listings that seem heavy or oversized enough to account for that shipping price but if you cancel it'll be a huge hit on your account. If it's the only time it happens and you learn from the error, it'll fall off in a year.

You cannot ask the buyer to pay more than the listing called for.

@clifford3470

As others have advised, you might want to post on your community forum in your country.  My guess is many will advise the same as what you got here, but if it can help to better serve you, here's the link:

Good luck!

The problem is I cannot determine if this the sellers error or if it is a problem with eBay shipping calculations being different from the actual postage rates the U.K has for shipping to what amounts to a U.K. protectorate. OP has not come back and provided any updated information and frankly I would not know what to do with it if they did since I don't ship out of the U.K. and don't know their postal system.

Have to disagree on this one. As you said limited information and this may in fact not be the sellers issue or mistake. Why should they have to eat the $41.50 in additional shipping if it is not their problem. If it was your item would you send it and eat the cost if the error was potentially not your error?

Jersey and Guernsey are part of Royal Mail and treated as domestic. If you address a package to one of those places with United Kingdom as the country (shipping from America), it will get there, it's just not fast for mail to get there.

I shipped something to a guy in Jersey. The shipping went down when i put United Kingdom instead of Jersey as the country (which is how he provided his address, that's how I knew to do that). I checked with Royal Mail and they said addressed to UK it will still be delivered.
