im sorry to have to do this but we will no longer be selling on ebay .. We just shipped out our final sales and what ebay took from our sales was the cost of the shipping so who pays that now.....How is it legal to take a percentage of the cost of shipping.  Someone has now become greedy. I dont sell on ebay for entertainment. This was a way for my family to earn extra money not ebay....

Fees are virtually unchanged under the new system. You’re just paying your fees in small increments, instead of a big bill at the end of the month.

And they’ve been charging FVF on shipping for 10 years.

It is a very common thing for online sales to charge the same fee for both the selling price and the shipping cost.  eBay has done it for years now. Even online sales tax is charged on the shipping cost as well as the selling price in some States.

Maybe my eyes are confused or something, but I also see two items for sale by "niftynoodle."

Unfortunately, you have to pad the shipping cost to allow for Ebay's pound of extra flesh.  Tell you buyers if they ask that is what is being done.  See how they react.  All of this stems from greedy sellers who years ago

would charge a small fee to "buy" the item, then a huge shipping cost as a way of avoiding final value fees.   So people are scummy all round, no one is honest, buyer's are liars, etc, etc.

I totally avoid the Ebay tacked-on fee for domestic shipping costs by listing most of our items with free domestic shipping, and then using Stamps.com. (International shipping, when I use it, is different and usually has to be calculated by Ebay when listing).

Yearly, I have spent as much as $8,000 in shipping.  For a very low monthly fee, they don't tack on any extra cost... at the end of the year, the total fees for my domestic shipping at Stamps.com averages only about 2 or 3%. And I get all the benefits of discounted shipping costs, international shipping with customs forms, low-cost insurance if I want it, and a whole list of benefits.

The Stamps.com site is user-friendly too, with the added bonus of actual people to answer the customer service phones, and who really know their stuff and can actually do something when needed!

I've been using them for about 17 years now, and even have them linked to my GoDaddy.com account for automatic bookkeeping.

Based on the amount of shipping you expect (or hope) to be doing, using a similar service may be a solution for you.

I shake my head when I see all the complaints about using Ebay for shipping.

Don't be foolish and hurt yourself by leaving Ebay just because of the added fees for shipping... there are pleasant alternatives.

Cheers, Duffy

You realize that when you advertise "Free Shipping" that the your cost of shipping is simply included in the asking price?

Which is cheaper a $10 item with $5 shipping or a $15 with Free Shipping?

If you are not including your shipping cost in your asking price, you are reducing your profit by the cost of shipping.

In the same way, Stamps.com are charging you a fee for buying postage from them. They don't put it on every transaction but charge you monthly.

It's still a darn good deal.

EBay does the same with Store "free listings".

With a Basic Store at 350 "free listings" for  a monthly subscription of $25, each of your  350 listings actually costs you 7c. If you only listed 100 listing each would cost you 25c- and having no Store would be cheaper.

In response to reallynicestamps:

I am able to manipulate my sales price to more than compensate for offering free shipping, and it has not hurt my sales or reduced my profit.

Also, many buyers are attracted to seeing "Free and Prompt Shipping with Tracking to a US Address!" and Ebay adding "Fast and Free Shipping" in most of my listings. I noticed an appreciable jump in sales when I switched over most of my listings to Free Shipping years ago.

I also did mention in my previous post of the monthly cost that averages only 2-3% added for shipping on Stamps.com. It is part of my business model that is beneficial when compared to the alternatives.

Finally, I do not have the shipping clutter, confusion or downtime to have to deal with on Ebay. Shipping is all that Stamps.com deals with and is always on top of it, not as a side branch of their business with less attention paid to it. That is another reason why I agree with you: "It's still a darn good deal"...

Cheers, Duffy

This has been going on for years.  Nothing new.

How can a experienced seller like yourself not be familiar with ebay policies?

" the monthly cost that averages only 2-3% added for shipping on Stamps.com. "

eBay's final value fee is based on what the buyer pays to you. It has nothing to do with whether you purchase your postage through eBay vs elsewhere.  eBay doesn't charge any additional fees when you purchase postage through them.  By paying a fee to stamps.com rather than purchasing postage through eBay you have actually increased your costs.

As others have mentioned, you aren't avoiding the tacked on fee for postage by offering free shipping & printing your label elsewhere.  It's just tacked on all at once since your postage is included in your asking price for your item, you pay the same total fees either way.    You are paying more overall by using the stamps program.

NEW?  This is 2021.  In 2011, eBay began to charging FVFs on shipping.  For ten years you've paid this, but you've never noticed it until now.  I checked to make sure, and yes, the ID you posted with has been in use since 2000.  Baffling.

Think about that for a minute. Maybe two, if needed.
