eBay not fun anymore is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?

I am a hobby type seller, and I have fun searching thru estate sales and auctions for stuff to sell. Usually I would sell on eBay, it was quick and easy with the much missed classic pages to write and track items and total monthly sales on minimal pages and was easy to read. In essence the page had been refined to the point that it was simplified for anyone to use with minimal problems. I only used Paypal for payment and I was paid immediately by Paypal. All in all an easy and fun way to make some extra money. The changes eBay has forced upon the sellers has really made eBay a chore, more than fun, and on top of that since these changes traffic on eBay has fallen off a cliff. I am not the only one seeing this. Due to eBay sitting on my money for several days, I have been forced to extend my handling time out. I WILL NOT ship an item before the money for MY ITEM sold is in MY ACCOUNT. What has eBay done to instill blind trust in me to trust them with MY MONEY? eBay has never had the sellers back on disputes and now they want access to my financial institutions.. I used to have upwards of 100 plus items for sale at one time, now less than half that and I am not motivated to post anything new, and I have some GREAT items sitting at home. eBay takes enough in fees and they want me to use their products to ship too?? What, so they can gouge me multiple times for shipping fees AND shipping products??? NO!!! I NEVER use eBay labels or shipping products, I have had people gripe about shipping costs, and I would refund if my ballpark pricing was WAY too high, glad to do it, too.  Not to mention the political stances taken by this and several other internet commerce platforms, restricting freedom of speech and commerce. I know I am not alone in feeling this eBay malaise, what are my fellow smaller hobbyist doing to recharge and be enthusiastic about selling again???

How is MP a step up from PayPal???   With PayPal, you get the funds immediately & they can be transferred to your bank acct. - arriving the same day or the next day.  Waiting longer for the money to arrive is a step up?  lol   How about for the people who wish to have funds in their PP to use for other purposes?  Instead of getting sales & have the money available there, you have to transfer from your bank acct. & it takes several days.  No thanks!

Well, if that doesn't do you in, then bidens new tax taking effect Dec 31st 2021 on any sales over $600 a year will.  So in essence, on top of paying almost 20% to sell here (ebay fees, item cost, shipping fees etc..) we will have to pay the feds a third of the rest.  So, i guess that throws that anyone making over $400,000 out the window eh!

If only that were totally true.  I have seen many regulars attack an OP like there idiots, make fun of them, and generally chase them off the boards never to return.  Now, I have seen a few nice ones as well, but, if there getting called those things, I have seen it to be true.   So it works both ways.

PP charged less to.  Fees on taxes with PP, almost 3%, fees with taxes with MP, almost 13%.

Ebay also gave there self a recent fee hike as well on top of that.   They both didn't charge for states who charge no tax.

Imagine how much money there getting from that extra 10%!

To my knowledge, there hasn't been a single report of a seller not receiving their money while in the MP program after shipping when being told to ship.

The only exceptions I can even think of would be where a buyer opens a case immediately before the funds finish processing. But even with Paypal, if you were to have those funds released to you sooner than they would be with MP (which they aren't really, Paypal just extends the courtesy to 'trusted' sellers and makes the money appear sooner), those funds would still be put back on hold in the event of a case.

I really cannot wrap my head around this paranoia that MP = I won't ever be paid... in fact don't you have a choice on how often you want to be paid with MP?

Re: eBay not fun anymore is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?

I haven't really said this anywhere, or much about Seller Hub, but I like it a lot more than the old software.  It's too glitchy in a lot of respects (the big one I see is it misreporting numbers in the Overview page, namely my 40 "unsold listings" that don't exist) and I'd wish they would have locked it down a lot more.  But past the little learning curve I had to figure it out, I'm getting things done with it a lot easier than the other way.

Probably my biggest issue issue is the "Item Specifics" stuff and how the software works there.  It keeps telling me I have a number of "recommended item specifics" for each of my listings, but when I pull up the list, it doesn't ID which of them are the "recommended" ones.  So I'm left to guess.

"is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?"

Only you know the answer to that. If you are here primarily because its fun, and it is no longer fun...

I read your post. None of the things that appear to bother you so much about ebay bother me. Been using Seller Hub for years, no problems with Managed Payments, I find ebay shipping labels to be easy, convenient and reasonably priced, ebay fees are...well, what they are. I can live with them. And I don't give much thought to ebay's "political stance", just as I don't give any thought as to whether my buyers are to my right or to my left LOL

BUT....these things DO bother you, and only you know if they bother you so much that ebay is no longer fun.

When ebay is no longer fun for me, I'll leave. But that's just me. Do whatever works for you.

Hi - The past abuse does not give the ebay a license for their present abuse.

Re: eBay not fun anymore is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?

You don't have to fill out ANY item specifics that are "Recommended", unless you want to, particularly if your title and/or listing description already has some of them. You DO have to fill out the specifics that say "Required Soon". This should save you a lot of time.

It took me only a couple hours to go thru my 700+ items and modify those listings that needed a "Required Soon" update -- generally in the collectibles, DVDs and CDs and books categories.

In your Listings in Seller Hub, there should be a new column that Ebay added called "Item Specifics" It will tell you which of your listings are flagged as "Add Recommended", (which you can ignore if you want) or "Required Soon". Pretty convenient.

Cheers, Duffy

Paypal fronted the money to the seller before it was even cleared to them, so we all got happy and comfortable with that - now Adyen as a financial banking institution (PP was Not a bank) are bound by banking laws and can not do that, so we wait until funds are in our banks..... or we move on

Re: eBay not fun anymore is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?

Fair enough,

1. As a buyer: The thing I like about MP is that it will weed out scam sellers - you know the fly by nights who open an account and sucker in some poor sap to buy something they won't ever get and then vanish into the night and open yet another scam account.

Because eBay now require SSN/address/bank details/eBay account and they all are linked then this will stop the scammers.

2. As a seller: I never liked Paypal as it restricted the amount of funds daily I could transfer to my business account, now I just get funds directed from Adyen - so no more middle man.

Also - no more scam sellers giving the rest of us a bad name LOL

Re: eBay not fun anymore is the hassle of seller hub and MP worth it ?

   Reply to deadsenna69 misconception:

If you don't ship until payment is actually in your account, you will run the risk of unhappy buyers and potentially neutral or negative feedback. And if you extend your S/H time way out in order to make sure your money is actually in your bank account, many buyers will see they won't get their item from you in a timely manner, and will often buy from someone else who has a much shorter delivery time.

Please understand: When Ebay says to ship, you need to ship! Your money is ALREADY SECURED. It only takes 2-3 days for Ebay/Adyen to process it into your bank account, if you selected daily deposits; anybody's business model can easily adapt to that. If you need to purchase shipping labels on Ebay, you can use the pending money that is already sitting in your MP account.

Most of my items are shipped out on the next business day. Since joining MP around 700 transactions ago, I have not lost one penny with MP, and my buyers are really happy that I still have next business day shipping.

Cheers, Duffy

There's no new tax on sales over $600/year. The IRS has always required us to pay tax on the profits from our sales. What has changed is the reporting threshold for marketplaces like eBay; they're now required to send a 1099 to sellers whose sales are over $600 for the year, lower than the previous $2,000 threshold.

You can significantly reduce the amount of taxes you owe by setting up your business the right way and keeping good expense records. If you're giving up a third of your income to taxes, it's time to make a date with a CPA!
