eBay, Stop automatically enrolling me in international shipping!

This has to stop. I don't want to be automatically enrolled in international shipping or anything else. Stop it, eBay! Give us options, choices, rights! I'm sick of having to opt out of something I never wanted! I am posting it here because you make it so tough for sellers to communicate with you. How about a suggestion box????

There is an option to opt out, but you will be the one missing out. But that's fine, less competition for me. The new international program is great. Possibly the best change that eBay made in a long time. Just ship the item to Illinois and as long as it gets there safely, what happens next is none of your concern, even if the buyer wants to return the item.

Why would you want to opt out of something that would expose your listings to millions more buyers with a higher chance of selling and all you do is ship it to a domestic hub and there is nothing else to worry about?

Ebay takes care of everything else including all the risks of returns, customs, lost packages,  and shipping.

This is a great deal and a win-win for sellers.

I've opted out, because I have fallen for these types of things before with ebay, and I regretted it every time.

Not falling for it again.

The reason the opt-in is automatic is that you're actually not being opted in to international shipping, you're opted in to domestic shipping with eBay handling the rest.  Just opt out.

This is a new program.

You couldn't have fallen for it before.

If you don't like getting more sales without any risk or having to do anything different,

that's totally up to you.

So. I'm selling a baseball card for 99 cents & $1.25 shipping. Somebody from Japan buys it. Is eBay going to ship the card to Japan for $1.25 shipping?

Re: eBay, Stop automatically enrolling me in international shipping!

This is not about the benefits of the program or the lack thereof. This is about eBay opting me into something I don't want. They should ask me to decide to opt in or not. After 24 years as seller, I know what I want and don't want. eBay treats us like children. I have never been asked what I want or what I need. There is no link that says, "Tell us what you need from us, sellers." It feels like living in a dictatorship and the dictator has no idea what the people need.

If someone from Japan wants to buy it, ebay will add on a international shipping charge in addition you your $1.25 shipping charge.  The buyer in Japan can then decide if they want to go through with the sale or not.

If they do, you get your $1.25 shipping. Ebay gets their international shipping fee from the buyer.

You don't risk anything. You don't have to do anything different. You ship it to a US address.

Why would you want to opt out of eby  global shipping when they charge you an international transaction fee.  Nothing beats paying more fees!

They don't charge you any more fees.

The ebay international shipping programs waives the international fee on sales made with the EIS program. I guess you actually have to look at the program to know the details.

Re: eBay, Stop automatically enrolling me in international shipping!

I’ve opted out because I already had the same amount of exposure as the EIS gives, unless they ship to more countries than USPS does. I’ve streamlined my international shipping methods for so long now and my international returns are close to zero.

So it all comes down to the buyer out of pocket price. eBay mentions “The buyer will be charged US shipping costs that you've specified, as well as international shipping, handling, and other fees as determined by eBay. Import charges may be collected from the buyer at checkout or on delivery, either through customs or directly by the carrier. These charges include any customs duties, taxes, brokerage, and other fees.” This statement is the main reason why I’m not choosing EIS.

Many times I’m able to undercut eBay’s international postage cost through Pirateship. Let’s say I have an item price $20 with $10 shipping to Illinois. Someone in UK buys it and my price to ship to UK is $15, but eBay’s postage label cost is $20. So the EIS buyer final cost for this item will be AT LEAST $50 +customs fee +any eBay handling/other fees mentioned in the statement. Whereas the buyer non-EIS final cost will be $35 +customs fee. If I was that UK buyer and I saw those two prices side by side, you’d bet your **bleep** I’d choose the $35 one. I’m offering a discount of at least $15 by not using EIS.

I also don’t like if the buyer is forced to pay customs fees upfront at checkout. If the buyer sees the entire amount at checkout, it might discourage them from following through with the purchase. Having the buyer pay customs at delivery won’t make your price seem as high during checkout. I hardly get problems with buyers not paying their customs fee at pickup. And of the ones that don’t pay customs, 100% of the time I was eventually protected by eBay anyway.

So no EIS for me thanks. I’m much more competitive without it.

You didn't read what I wrote or you didn't understand what I wrote.

I said, "These types of things"....I didn't say this exact thing.

Ebay has been less than honest with  promotions like this before,

so i will not be falling for the hype.   They usually end up in disaster.

FYI,  been doing this 20+ years, and there is ALWAYS a risk.

Been there before.
