eBay Shock: Accurate Listing Denied Despite Full Disclosure of Louis Vuitton Purse Flaws

I recently had a disappointing experience with eBay's authenticity check process that I believe needs addressing. I listed a Louis Vuitton South Bank Besace Damier Ebene Purse, clearly stating in my listing all its defects and issues. I provided detailed photos and a comprehensive description, ensuring potential buyers were fully informed before purchasing.

Despite my transparency, the buyer received the purse and eBay's authenticity check subsequently denied it, leading to a return and refund process. This decision left me both frustrated and at a loss, as my listing explicitly detailed every defect and flaw of this specific Louis Vuitton item.

I find it disheartening that despite my efforts to provide accurate information, I'm penalized due to a subjective authenticity check that seemed to disregard the specifics outlined in my listing. Transparency should count for something, and it's disappointing to see it overridden by a process that doesn't seem to consider the seller's side.

I hope eBay can review and improve its authenticity check process to better recognize and support sellers who act in good faith and provide full disclosure. Has anyone else encountered a similar situation with high-end items like Louis Vuitton purses? How did you navigate it? I'm open to any advice or insights on how to handle such disputes in the future.

Thank you for your input.

This doesn't make sense to me.........can you give the reason Ebay, apparently, decided the item was not authentic?

@dhbookds

It could be authentic, but did not match the description.  Something can fail authentication and still be authentic. I think the pictures could have been a little better focusing on the flaws. That’s my opinion.

Agreed. From the listing: "The leather strap shows wear on the side and is sticky." It's kinda hard to catch 'sticky' in a pic.

eBay's authenticity has been all over the place.  When it started, they only checked if it was a real brand item.  They did not look at it's condition.  Later they started rejecting for things like a creased hang tag or a shoe box lid with a split corner.   They then backed off some and now  there is no telling what will or won't be accepted.

A Louis Vuitton purse with defects and flaws makes me wonder if it could have been a factory reject. I once knew a person who lived near a fenton factory who bragged about pulling lots of seconds from their dumpster. How can a company even protect themselves from this? While you may have a genuine LV purse with flaws, they may have never meant for it to be sold. Just something to think about.

Stated it did not meet description but description was word for word what they said was not listed on listing. There was no outside damage either so not sure how to state that if there is none.

I sure hope it wasn’t after I spent 2k on it from a Louis Vuitton store in Columbus Ohio. I would be even more disappointed if that was that fact that I spent that amount of money on a poor quality purse when that is one of the main reasons of buying this type of purse is for quality.

Using eBay's AI to write your description is probably not a good idea.

This is an example from your listing as to why this item could have been booted by the authenticator.

" It features some wear on the strap's side and minor pen marks inside, adding character while maintaining its overall elegance and functionality".

"adding character while maintaining its overall elegance and functionality"  makes me chuckle.

I would have written: Flaws are: minor pen marks inside bag, strap has wear & is sticky, & so on, clearly listing all flaws, rather than using the AI generated description.

They are flaws, not features. Wear doesn't add character, it decreases value.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
