Hello,
I have a buyer who purchased an item on Jan 20 and hasn't paid.
I'm not complaining about it or sending invoices or really care. I know I can cancel non paid after 4 days. But don't care to do so at this time.
My question is does eBay cancel an order for non payment if it sits too long ? (Not talking the auto cancel feature we can set).
If eBay does cancel what reason do they use and is buyer able to leave feedback.
Also eBay keeps sending me feedback reminders but it's like they haven't paid yet why you trying to push me to leave feedback.

Adding to this @robbie31415 . If you set up automation rules (which I recommend), it will apply to future transactions. For your Jan 20 transaction you need to cancel manually with the non-payment reason.
If you paid a promoted listings standard ad fee you don't want to let the transaction time out as that's not a cancellation and you won't get the ad fee back if it's not cancelled. You need to cancel to block feedback from the buyer.

Yes the buyer can leave feedback up to 60 days after the purchase.
Ebay use to block payments from being made after 30 days. No cancel reason was given.
Not sure of ebays process now.

You can turn off feedback reminder emails here under 'General Preferences'.

If any seller reading this prefers to set up automatic feedback so they never have to give it another thought, they can do that here:

Hi @robbie31415 and welcome!
Below is the Unpaid Item policy for your perusal.

Automatically cancelling a transaction for nonpayment is something the seller does.
You can set that up in Preferences for items awaiting payment

If you have your account settings setup to cancel after 4 days of non-payment then yes eBay will automatically close the order for buyer non-payment, the buyer will receive a non-payment strike and will be unable to leave feedback. I am unsure if eBay has a maximum number of days for which the buyer has not paid before they will automatically cancel the order.
As for why you are getting the feedback messages eBay has often had issues with pieces/parts of its systems not talking to one another.

No I dont have automatic cancel nor want it.
But this part of the policy is confusing.
Sellers can cancel an order if the buyer hasn't paid after 4 calendar days and up to 30 days after the order is placed. Learn more in our Order cancellation policy.
So if I do nothing and it passes the 30 day mark I can't cancel ? Also, I lose all cancellation feedback protections for non payment?
If it goes past 30 days and seller can no longer cancel does it just sit unpaid forever ?
Has anyone had a non paid item for more than 30 days ?

Correct. You lose FB protection, buyer does not get a non-payment strike, and as mentioned in my last post you'd forfeit your credit of promoted listings standard ad fees by not cancelling (if applicable).

Even if you don't care (why not?) how about cancelling for the benefit of future sellers who may deal with this buyer?
When you, the seller, cancel after 4 days, citing "buyer did not pay" as the reason, that buyer gets a strike. Two strikes in a 12 month period, and most smart sellers have set their buyer requirements so that they don't need to deal with this person.

Thanks I set automatic up for 27 days, they offer 30, but I don't want any glitches to happen and can't cancel on last day.
I will now make sure to cancel before 30 day mark.
Honestly I'm in no rush to be paid. I'd let them pay in 90 days if I could.
But the eBay system seems to penalize sellers too much with loss of potential ad fee reversal and feedback protection.
Thanks everyone for the info.

If you have not cancelled using buyer did not pay as the reason, maybe eBay's automated system assumes you were paid and that's why you keep getting messages to leave FB.

At the 30-day mark, not only does the seller lose the option to cancel the transaction but also the buyer loses the option to pay for it.
