Does it really matter what I chose?

A package got returned back to me because the buyer didn’t include their unit number. After a few days the buyer says they don’t want to redeliver the package but rather wants a full refund which I’m fine with. I accidentally selected to “cancel order” with the buyer requested reason versus the “send refund” option in the transaction page.

Under these circumstances, does it really matter which choice I made? Both options end in the same exact result in regards to item/money/fees/defects, doesn’t it?

It does not matter. The buyer asked for a refund and there was a problem with their address. Both reasons are legit and if eBay checks up they can clearly see that in messages.

Also, if you are doing a full refund instead of a partial refund (less ship) then it's better to cancel instead of send refund. I believe if you send refund you don't get the 30 cent fee back, but cancelling you do. That adds up over time.

It is my understanding that when you use the "cancel" option, the buyer is refunded in full.  If you use "send refund", you can withhold the original shipping or something along those lines.  If a package is 'returned to sender'  for an incorrect address provided by the buyer, you are supposedly  not obligated by eBay to refund anything.
