Your bait and switch fees

Well I listed my nord keyboard on your site I looked and your site said the percent you take for musical instruments is 5.88 percent, today it showed that you took 12.88 percent, I talked to one of your reps and he said...that’s just the way it is ...well to me that fraud, also you charged your fee on the amount including the tax the buyer had to pay , what’s up with that..unhappy ebayer might be done after many years

Re: Your bait and switch fees

I think you misread the fee schedule.   Musical instruments have never been 5.88%.   Guitars and basses, however, do have a much lower FVF.

But, it is always easier and more satisfying to blame the problem on ebay, even if undeserved.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

The special fee is for guitars and basses.

Musical Instruments & Gear > Guitars & Basses
  • 5.85% on total amount of the sale up to $7,500 calculated per item
  • 2.35% on the portion of the sale over $7,500

Re: Your bait and switch fees

There is a fee on selling price.

There is another fee (10%) on shipping price.

There is a 30c non-refundable fee on payment processing plus a 2.9-4.4% fee on the payment itself.

If your customer paid Internet (state) sales tax, you paid 2.9% on that as a processing fee.

Here is the page about selling fees for Store subscribers.

And this is for sellers who have no Store.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

The OP's beef is not the fees per se, but that they didn't get the special rate which is only available if you sold guitars or basses, and does not include keyboards.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

So they published the fee as 5.88%

They waited until your keyboard sold.

Then changed the fee to 12.88%

That is bait and switch.

I would take them to small claims court.

@hask_crai

Don't think the 5.88% applies to keyboards.

Yes, their fee's are based on the total amount the buyer paid.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

You misunderstood. 5.88% is for Guitars and Basses in the Musical Instruments & Gear category.

@femmefan1946- So much of that info is out of date and does not apply here. The OP is in managed payments. There is one consolidated fee on the total amount the buyer pays (item, shipping, tax) plus a 30 cent transaction fee. The consolidated fee varies based on category and other factors.

2.9% to 4.4% are old PayPal rates for domestic and international sales, respectively. Those rates have since skyrocketed and don't apply since OP is in Managed Payments.

There is no separate 10% fee on shipping because of the consolidated fee.

There is no separate 2.9% fee on sales tax because of the consolidated fee.

Please screen shot and post where it said that.  If you can't, it didn't say that.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

Best to do some fact checking. The eBay site publishes today, July 28 2022, a Final Value fee for category > Musical Instruments & Gear > Guitars & Basses of:

  • 6% on total amount of the sale up to $7,500 calculated per item
  • insertion fee is supposedly "free"

I was charged 8% of reserve price for the first listing and almost 10% for the second listing of unsold item. As another unhappy ebayer, I will be choosing alternate channels upon auction completion.

Re: Your bait and switch fees

sorry you did not understand reserve fees......

its pretty much in black and white for you....

Reserve price is an optional upgrade for auction-style listings, with a fee that is charged at the time of listing. It would have been displayed as a cost next to the list/submit button to post your listing.

Reserve price
Set a minimum price that must be met for your item to sell

$5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250)
Charged whether or not your item sells
