Would you be concerned?

Someone buys a item from me.

Later messages me with a different username and asks me to cancel.

Not a cancellation request but a message.

I replied to her message and asked her to request to cancel the order on ebay.

Of course i'm not going to hear back from her in a timely matter.

I'm going to cancel her order "buyer requested" but should i be concerned?

Yes, cancel it buyers request. Otherwise, it will be a problem later.

How do you know it was a different username for the person who bought the item and not a different person?

You're right, I don't "know" for sure.

Which is why i'm a little concerned.

Have you contacted the original buyer (id user name) who ordered the item?

I had the exact thing happen a couple months ago and I refused to do it unless they requested using the ID they purchased with.  I felt uneasy about doing otherwise, and over the course of a day, they finally used the proper ID.   I wrote them through the ID used to purchase and they kept telling me they couldn't use that ID for some reason.  I finally told them to contact ebay for help.  I have no idea why they did this or why it was a problem to use the correct ID, but I'm funny about cancellations.

Seems like your first step when receiving this message would have been to contact the buyer and ask her if she sent the message.

We hear quite often about sellers receiving messages to redirect the package and a lot of the time the message is NOT from the actual buyer.

That's exactly what entered my mind at first, but even after I contacted them and felt it was the same person I still didn't like it.  I didn't want a fight down the road with ebay over being accused of cancelling without the proper buyer request.   Yes, I'm paranoid.

What exactly leads you to think that the sender of that message is connected to the buyer account?

I'm concerned that you're about to cancel an order where you have no idea who requested the cancellation, you don't even know if the person requesting the cancellation is your buyer... On that note the requester probably has you confused with another seller or is playing games with you, either way unless I can connect a buyer with a request directly I would ignore the request.

I would ignore it, but not ship until Monday.  That's weird, but I'd want to see if they ask again.

How do you know this cancellation request is coming from the actual buyer?  It could be another person who is upset that they missed out trying to get you to cancel and re-list.  It also could be an angry boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse trying to cause problems.  Tell them that you can only cancel if they request through the account they made the purchase.  That way you know for sure it is actually the real buyer.

Would message your Buyer to ask if they emailed you concerning their order?  No mention of cancel.

See if you get a reply.

This was the message:

"Hi, I placed an order about 8pm on March 4, order # 00-00000-00000, I paid through paypal. I want to cancel this order. Please CANCEL this order and refund me on Paypal. Thanks"

Who else would know this but the buyer?

Why wouldn't they just request to cancel through ebay?

Who knows why customers do some of the crazy things they do?

Because of some of your advice, i'm going to hold off on canceling and wait until Monday.

Hopefully i'll hear back from the buyer by then.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Have a great weekend!

Well here it is Monday morning.

Still no response from the buyer.

I gave her the whole weekend to respond to me at BOTH her ebay usernames.

At this point i decided to cancel the transaction.

I would rather cancel the transaction wrongly than send her something she does not want.

Customers, you gotta love em.   😃
