Why do so many sellers call everything a defect?

Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but every missed metric or issue on ebay does not result in a defect.  Ebay defines true defects very specifically and it is confusing when people call a late shipment a defect, every return a defect, no tracking uploaded a defect and on and on.

Unless things have changed, there are two things only that will result in a defect on a seller's record:

--out of stock cancellation

--unresolved by seller case

Other things may count against sellers, but they are not defects.

Because it's faster to type "defect" than "service metric"? Also I think many just don't know the difference.

The Service Metrics is completely different and ONLY counts INADs or INRs.  Nothing else.

Defects are found on your Seller Dashboard.  Each section is explained on the Dashboard for ease of understanding.  These are the numbers we are all eval'd on every 20th of each month for the period ending the previous month.

I find it easiest to remember it this way.

Things that appear on your Seller Dashboard in the section called Your Seller Level are defects.  This are the numbers that determine your seller level and are the numbers we are all eval'd on every 20th of the month for the period ending the previous month.

The items that appear in your Service Metrics are dings, defects ONLY happen on the Seller Level portion of the Dashboard.
